Roy Halladay rebounded from a horrid outing against Minnesota with six strong innings as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 Tuesday. After allowing five runs and seven hits in 2 2-3 innings against Minnesota last week, Halladay gave up a run and three hits in six innings. He struck out five, hit a batter and walked none. Philadelphia scored off Brian Matusz in the first on an RBI single by Ty Wigginton. Matusz allowed a run and seven hits in five innings. The Utley Era Wasn’t Supposed to Go Like This

So we’ve learned that Chase Utley probably won’t be ready for Opening Day, a reality many of us assumed but wanted badly not to hear this season. In the last episode of Phillies Nation TV, Pat asked why Utley hadn’t yet seen an inning in the field or a plate appearance against live pitching. It was a valid question that offered more and more room for pessimism the longer you...

Phillies Release Joel Pineiro

Joel Pineiro. (mlb)So much for the depth Joel Pineiro would bring to the Phillies pitching staff at the minor league level. According to the Phillies communications department twitter page, they have released the 33-year-old right-hander just before he was scheduled to pitch today. Many had asked about Pineiro perhaps having an outside shot at making the team, which was never a reality...

Chase Utley’s Knee Injury Lingers

Last season, Chase Utley opened the season on the disabled list due to knee tendinitis. He would miss 46 games. Now, reports are surfacing at CSN Philadelphia that the 33-year-old second baseman has left Phillies camp to see a specialist for his continually sore knees. It’s now considered “likely” Utley will begin the season on the disabled list, putting the Phillies’ entire...

This Means Something: Utley leaving camp

Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley will leave spring training camp in Clearwater, with an injury that apparently has hit a plateau. Utley has yet to play a game in spring training, leaving plenty of doubt to his availability for the 2012 season opener. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. released the following statement (via Todd Zolecki); “Chase’s rehab...

The D-Train Comes to Baltimore...

More infield woes for Phillies

The Phillies say they aren’t seeking a replacement for second baseman Chase Utley, who left the team Monday to be evaluated by a specialist.   But their latest injury – a broken bone in infielder Michael Martinez’s foot – almost certainly means that the team will pursue a utility man.   Martinez suffered his injury Tuesday when he was hit by a pitch in a Grapefruit League...

D-Train’s career comes to a halt, but it does leave me with bigger questions

Dontrelle Willis was once on top of the baseball world. The hard-tossing lefty took the baseball world by storm in 2005 when he won 22 games, threw five shutouts, and came in second in the NL Cy Young race. Fast forward seven years, and this once promising career is all but finished.  In his first five seasons (2003-2007) Dontrelle Willis won a total of 68 games. Since then...

Vlad Ready To Play In Japan

It’s hard to believe nobody wants Vladimir Guerrero’s services.  Maybe he’s just being stubborn.  The 37-year old with 449 career home runs has been awaiting a call from an MLB club all offseason and has heard nothing.  Guerrero last played for the Baltimore Orioles in 2011, where he made $8 million, hit .290, 13 home runs,

Baltimore Orioles Latest Team to Hope for Dontrelle Willis Resurgence

The Baltimore Orioles are hoping to do something that the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies could not do over the past four years. Willis, the former 22 game winner with the Florida...
