New York Mets outfielder Scott Hairston has owned left-handed pitching this season, a fact that is not much of a secret around baseball.  The 32-year-old has hit nine home runs in just 105 at-bats against southpaws in 2012, a total that ties him with reigning MVP Ryan Braun of the Brewers for the NL lead in that category.

Beyond Hairston’s success against lefties is his penchant for beating up on Philadelphia Phillies pitching.  This season Scotty has lit up the Mets division rivals to the tune of a .324 batting average and amassed five homers in just 34 at-bats.

While a 1.167 is enough to drive most Phillies fan nuts, Hairston’s domination of the Phils has sent one of their radio announcers, Scott Franzke, over the edge.  According to Joe Lucia of ‘The Outside Corner’ (click here to read post in full) this soundbite likely came during the Mets July 4th contest with Philadelphia.  Hairston homered in that game, a trend that Franzke apparently does not enjoy, as evidenced in the audio clip below (warning, clip contains vulgar language).

I’d hardly say Hairston stinks, but I can understand Franzke’s frustration given his team’s performance this season and to be honest I like when hometown announcers show emotion in broadcasts.  I guess the only thing I’d say is they need to make sure they’re at commercial when getting all ‘Andrew Dice Clay’ on the mic or keep it clean.  But if they did that all the time, we wouldn’t have little nuggets like this to help occupy a couple off days until baseball starts back up.  Hat tip again to Joe Lucia of ‘The Outside Corner’ for digging this up.

Mets Are Better Than Sex AND The Phillies

Our friends at the Mets Are Better Than Sex get all the credit for uncovering this gem. It’s audio of Phillies announcer, Scott Franzke, going off on the Mets’ Scott Hairston last week during the series at Citi Field. Apparently he didn’t realize his mic was live when he exclaimed the following after a Hairston home run. “Will somebody figure out how to f***ing get Scott...

Mets’ first half report card

Well here we are. At the midway point of the season, our beloved New York Mets are exceeding expectations and are currently six games over .500 and in contention for the playoffs. For the Mets to be where they are at this point, a lot has gone right so far with many players unexpectedly chipping in, while others have gone way beyond the call of duty. So, with that said, here is your...

Dillon Gee headed to DL with blood clot in right shoulder

Apparently this All-Star break is not turning into much of a break at all for the New York Mets.  After the controversy of R.A. Dickey being slighted out of starting tonight’s game had somewhat settled, the team is now reporting that Dillon Gee will be placed on the disabled list after it was found that a blood clot in his right shoulder was causing numbness in his fingers. ...

The Atmosphere Around The Mets Is Shifting

There is something in the air around Citi Field, other than Flushing Bay at low tide. The atmosphere has lightened, almost imperceptibly. The gloom and black clouds that permeated the place are slowly, surely being dispersed. The dust of the previous three seasons is being blown out over the sea. Citi Field is starting to feel like home. I mentioned the feeling that this was...

Medical Update From Mets On Gee

The following update was just issued by the Mets: Dillon Gee will have surgery tomorrow on his right shoulder to replace a portion of damaged artery. The decision to have surgery follows a recommendation made earlier this week by Mets medical staff and doctors in New York and Dillon’s consultation today with Dr. Robert Thompson in St. Louis. Dr. Thompson, who has performed similar...

Mets' Gee may need more surgery

The New York Mets say right-hander Dillon Gee is being discharged from the hospital after having surgery to break up a blood clot in his throwing shoulder. The Mets said in a release Wednesday that Gee could have further surgery to prevent a possible recurrence of the clot in the same location of his arm. Gee has been put on the disabled list and left-hander Josh Edgin will be...

Val Pascucci Crowned Triple-A Home Run Derby Champ!

While Prince Fielder was winning the MLB Home Run Derby last night in Kansas City, Valentino Pascucci was making some noise of his own at Coca Cola Field in Buffalo where Scooch hit 22 home runs to win the Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby. A crowd of 17,224 at Coca-Cola Field chanted Pascucci’s name as he hit six of those homers in the final round to secure the title over Charlotte’s...

Now Mets sit idle until Friday. Bay starts re-hab.

All star game festivities are over.  Now we wait a year for the one in Citi Field. If you don’t have your season tickets the deadline past Tuesday so now you are like me and the rest of the fans and will pay through the nose to go.    Good times.  The Mets now chill until Friday nights contest with the Braves in Atlanta the start of a 6 game road trip.  As of right now with Gee in the

Mets News and Notes: Interleague, All-Stars, Gee, Bay , Francisco, Dickey

Mets News an Notes: Union chief Michael Weiner confirmed Tuesday that interleague matchups between natural rivals -- including the Mets and Yankees -- will be limited to three or four games a season going forward, not six. The exception will be in years when, for instance, the AL East and NL East line up to play. In those seasons, a six-game, home-and-home slate will still...

The Binghamton Buzz: Losing Streak Snapped, First Half Done

Ramblings From Henry and Fayette Streets The Week That Was: July 2nd – July 9th  The Binghamton Mets record in the week preceeding the mid-season break sent them into their mini-vacation on a positive note.  They ended their season long losing streak on Tuesday the third with a 3-2 win over the Altoona Curve, and all told went 5-and-3 on the week.  After their win on Tuesday...

Creative (Albeit Poor) Internal Solution to Dillon Gee

The Mets will be faced with an upcoming roster move soon as Gee is about to go on the DL till at least September. You can read about that story everywhere, it’s not the focus here. What are the Mets supposed to do? Do they trade for another pitcher? Do they rely on Batista? Do they rush Harvey? Harvey says he’s ready, and his last several starts have shown improvement but Mets...

When the Disabled List is the Best Case Scenario

As a human, Dillon Gee is recovering from a blood clot in his throwing shoulder. I'm pleased that the Mets medical staff caught this quickly and that Dillon can recover from this because blood clots are as scary as it gets. I'm not a doctor, but this is as close to a relevant case that I could find on the internet (granted, I haven't looked too long.) As a pitcher, Dillon...

Mets lose Dillon Gee for the season: is it time for Matt Harvey?

Few Mets fans have been riding the Dillon Gee bandwagon for as long as I have. To me, and some of my closest Mets fan friends, he’s the second-coming of Rick Reed, down to sharing the number the veteran righty wore in his time in New York. Over the All-Star break, Gee was revealed to [...]

Tony La Russa screws over R.A. Dickey and David Wright

Tony La Russa's wrongheaded All-Star decisions have unfairly penalized not just R.A. Dickey, but also David Wright, and they have rewarded Giants fans for stuffing the ballot box.Buster Posey did not deserve to start at catcher over Carlos Ruiz and Yadier Molina. But because Giants fans voted Posey in, La Russa names another Giant who shouldn't be starting, Matt Cain, as...
