New York Mets outfielder Scott Hairston has owned left-handed pitching this season, a fact that is not much of a secret around baseball.  The 32-year-old has hit nine home runs in just 105 at-bats against southpaws in 2012, a total that ties him with reigning MVP Ryan Braun of the Brewers for the NL lead in that category.

Beyond Hairston’s success against lefties is his penchant for beating up on Philadelphia Phillies pitching.  This season Scotty has lit up the Mets division rivals to the tune of a .324 batting average and amassed five homers in just 34 at-bats.

While a 1.167 is enough to drive most Phillies fan nuts, Hairston’s domination of the Phils has sent one of their radio announcers, Scott Franzke, over the edge.  According to Joe Lucia of ‘The Outside Corner’ (click here to read post in full) this soundbite likely came during the Mets July 4th contest with Philadelphia.  Hairston homered in that game, a trend that Franzke apparently does not enjoy, as evidenced in the audio clip below (warning, clip contains vulgar language).

I’d hardly say Hairston stinks, but I can understand Franzke’s frustration given his team’s performance this season and to be honest I like when hometown announcers show emotion in broadcasts.  I guess the only thing I’d say is they need to make sure they’re at commercial when getting all ‘Andrew Dice Clay’ on the mic or keep it clean.  But if they did that all the time, we wouldn’t have little nuggets like this to help occupy a couple off days until baseball starts back up.  Hat tip again to Joe Lucia of ‘The Outside Corner’ for digging this up.
