When Bronson Arroyo took the mound against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday night, it should have been a recipe for success for the home team. In his last six regular season starts against the Phillies, Arroyo was 0-6 with a 10.29 ERA. Arroyo faced the Phils twice in 2011. He allowed 15 runs on 18 hits in those two games. But the only thing that stood in between Arroyo and a run at perfection was the imperfect but five-tool-talented former Phillies top prospect Domonic Brown. The 24-year-old Brown, who earned his third big league promotion when the Phillies traded away outfielders Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino last month, hit a two-out, solo home run off Arroyo to break up a perfect game bid in the fifth inning. The Phillies lost 3-2 and were out-hit by the Reds 11-4. Brown accounted for half of the offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. "It was a low-scoring game and Brown had the hits for us," Manuel said of his 24-year-old right...

Reds win with retro style

Last Game The Reds won and ensured no less than a split of the 4-game series against the Phillies last night. Bronson Arroyo faced the minimum number of batters through the first four innings, gave up a home run in the fifth to Domonic Brown and then went back to facing the minimum until the eighth inning. Prior to this, the Phillies had owned Arroyo, but he really demonstrated...

Arroyo's strong start helps Reds beat Phils

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Bronson Arroyo allowed three hits in eight-plus innings, and Jay Bruce homered to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night. Arroyo (10-7), who gave up both runs while striking out four and walking none, retired the first 14 batters before Domonic Brown's two-out homer in the fifth. Brown doubled off the...

Bronson Arroyo Pitches Gem Against Phillies, Phils Drop Another, 3-2

In Vance's previous four starts, he had gone less than six innings and had allowed four or more earned runs. Vance would go six again, but it was a much better start than his last. While Bronson Arroyo was tossing a no-hitter through five innings, the Reds were backing him up with some offense. In the fifth, Drew Stubbs singled to right to score Ryan Hanigan. Stubbs later...

Reds hold on for win over Philly, 3-2

A sure way to tell this is a special season – not even the Philadelphia curse can keep the Reds at bay. The Redlegs found a way to win in the City of Brotherly Love once again Wednesday night, holding on for a 3-2 victory. Bronson Arroyo (10-7) was awesome on the hill, the Reds had just enough timely hitting and Aroldis Chapman held on in the ninth ...

Streak snapped, Reds want to keep rolling

The Cincinnati Reds had to wait quite awhile before finally celebrating another victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Bronson Arroyo hopes it's his turn next. The Reds starter seeks his first win over the Phillies in more than 12 years when the teams continue their series Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. Cincinnati had dropped seven straight and 15 of the last 16 meetings...

Vance Worley, Bronson Arroyo Match-Up For '90s Retro Night

The Phillies enter tonight's game nine games under .500 and ten games back in the Wild Card. At 57-66 and 39 games left to play, there's a slim - and I mean slim - mathematical possibility that the Phillies could make the playoffs with a Wild Card berth. After winning the series opener against the Reds on Monday, the Phillies were unable to mount a second consecutive win...

Arroyo Dazzles Phils En Route To Reds 3-2 Triumph

Vance Worley didn't pitch badly tonight. Bronson Arroyo just pitched stupendously. (AP) When the Phillies came to the ballpark tonight, they stood no chance. That’s because Bronson Arroyo was pitching, and pitching extremely well. Mix in Aroldis Chapman to close it out, and this one was over before it started. The final score was3-2, but the gap between the two teams was almost...

Phils lose close one as Reds pull out 3-2 win

A total of 41,794 fans, the moving ice cream containers, the Phantic, and oh, yeah, losing Phillies baseball. My live trek with the Phillies started in Pittsburgh on April 5 , a 1-0 win on opening day. I had to get to the park, I have Wednesday and Thursday off, so I decided to go to Wednesday matchup against the Reds, pitting Vance Worley vs. Bronson Arroyo at Citizens Bank Park...
