Amidst a stretch of games played against the National League East, the Phillies' woes grew worse tonight in the second game of this three-game series against Tommy Hanson and the Braves.
Brian McCann, coming off a big night, went deep again in the top of the second to put up the first run of the game.
The Phillies rallied in the bottom of the second to put up a three spot. Juan Pierre doubled to right field to score Hunter Pence. Pence, flying around the basepaths like a wild mongoose, knocked over third base coach Juan Samuel. Samuel went sailing towards the ground as the entire dugout erupted with laughter. Sammy did not laugh.
Next, Joe Blanton singled to right to score Placido Polanco from third. Jimmy Rollins ended the inning on a force out which Juan Pierre was able to score on. 3-1 Phils.
In the top of the third, Martin Prado doubled in Michael Bourn. Those two are one of the most intimidating 1-2 punches in all of baseball. The Phillies' lead was down to one...

Howard will be eased back into Phillies' lineup
After his first night back in the major leagues after suffering a ruptured left Achilles tendon in last year's National League playoffs, Ryan Howard looked out at the bevy of reporters that surrounded him. He was eventually asked about how much of the load he could shoulder for a Philadelphia Phillies team on the brink of collapse. "Nothing more than this bookbag on...
Phillies activate Ryan Howard from DL
The time for excuses is coming to a close. Chase Utley came off of the DL last week, and today, the Phillies have activated first baseman Ryan Howard.
Howard torn his Achilles tendon last October in game five of the NLDS against the Cardinals, and played six rehab games, tallying eight hits, two doubles, one homer, three walks, and three strikeouts.
The Phillies...
Not even Howard can save Phillies
Funny what a loss can do.
After Jonathan Papelbon blew a save that gave the Phillies a 6-5 loss to the Mets last night at Citi Field, Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. decided it was the best time to call Ryan Howard up for tonight’s game against the Braves.
This is a classic reactionary move at best, especially when Amaro mentioned on Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia’s...
Howard Activated From DL
(AP)
The Big Piece is back.
Following last night’s suggestion from Ruben Amaro that he could be in the lineup tonight, the Phillies made good on their word when they activated Ryan Howard from the disabled list today. Hector Luna has been sent to Lehigh Valley to make room on the 25-man roster.
Howard, who was recovering from the torn Achilles he suffered during game...
Two Men Can't Fix Bad.... But One Better...
From the Phillies Facebook, yesterday
Chase Utley returns, and in his very first at-bat, homers. Ryan Howard returns, and in his very first at-bat, doubles. In that time, the Phillies have gone 1-8. They lost the first five games with Chase Utley. They're 0-1 with Howard. And neither has been too bad. The truth is, this team is way more than one or two pieces away...

McCann's slam powers Braves over Phillies
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Brian McCann hit a grand slam, Tim Hudson tossed four-hit ball over seven innings and the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 to spoil Ryan Howard's season debut Friday night.
Howard doubled in his first at-bat and was 2 for 4 in his first game since rupturing his left Achilles tendon on the final swing in a postseason elimination loss to St...
Losses Keep Piling Up
Another night, another loss. It’s a familiar story in Philadelphia these days. This time, the Phillies lost 6-3 in front of a lifeless home crowd that had mostly retreated by the time the final out was recorded. Looking back at the Phillies’ history since moving to Citizens Bank Park, this final series before the All Star Break has to be absolute rock bottom. They’ve now...

Braves OF Bourn replaces Desmond on All-Star team
Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael Bourn is going to the All-Star game after all.
Bourn, who lost to David Freese in online voting for one of the final spots, is replacing Washington Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond on the NL roster for Tuesday's game in Kansas City.
Desmond has been dealing with a left oblique strain and is going to use the break to rest. The decision was made...

Reds among others showing interest in Juan Pierre
The Phillies are closing in on an “everything must go” sale as they again lost on Friday and are now 13 games back of the first place Washington Nationals. Though the team is not ready just yet to waive the white flag, teams are beginning to call about available players. Buster Olney notes that the Reds among other teams have called about Juan Pierre.
With the various injuries...
