Found November 08, 2012 on Philliedelphia:
According to a report from CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury, the Phillies are in communications with free agent B.J. Upton's agent, Larry Reynolds. Upton is the ideal outfielder for the Phillies. The 28 year old, right handed hitter can play the field well, hit for power, and bring home runs, which is exactly what the Phillies' lineup needs in 2013. Without hitters like Hunter Pence, the Phils will need to find players who can bring home runs and defend their position well.  It would take at least a five-year deal to land Upton at around $16 million per season. Upton's agent is looking for a team that can promise him that kind of money, but whoever offers him the most years would be the team to sign him. Darin Ruf, in the midst of Venezuelan winter ball, is also a contender for an outfield spot. First and foremost, the Phillies need a center fielder. While B.J. Upton would be the clear cut, most ideal choice, it will take quite a bit of money, and the Phils' first r...

Can Ruben Amaro Jr. put the Phillies back together again?

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. will head to MLB’s GM meetings with a lot of work to do. The holes on his team have been well chronicled and after a very disappointing 81-81 season to forget, it is RAJ’s job to try to fill those holes and get the Phillies back on the winning side of the ledger. Amaro told CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury that the Phillies have engaged in a significant...

Phillies Looking For A B.J. Upton

It is getting closer and closer to Thanksgiving, and Philadelphia hasn't heard a peep out of Ruben Amaro Jr...until now.  At the GM meetings, Ruben wasn't expecting to make any major moves, but maybe lay the groundwork.  On Thursday night, the Phillies general amnager did just that, as he has been communicating with outfielder B.J. Upton's agent.   With Josh Hamilton...

Upton Brothers: Phenoms, Disappointments, Now What?

Bottom of the second inning, and as Upton walked toward the plate, he might have noticed that no one was referring to him as the future anymore… It wasn’t much of a crowd, and therefore it wasn’t much of a heckle, but what it lacked in long and loud, it made up for in short and sweet. This was the sound of a crowd protesting spoiled brats and mouthy prospects and unpaid dues...

B.J. Upton declines Rays’ offer

Centerfielder B.J. Upton had a week to accept or decline the Rays’ qualifying offer he was sent last Friday. Today, his agent advised Tampa Bay they will be pursuing other offers in free agency.  Upton’s agent, Larry Reynolds, told the Rays the following, via Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times: At this point, we just feel it’s time to explore the free-agent process, and that’s...

Upton Brothers To Reunite?

One of the most intriguing things in sports is watching siblings play. It’s always great to see them play against each other (Eli vs. Peyton), but this offseason the Upton brothers actually have a chance of playing on the same team.  Wouldn’t it be great to watch them together, side by side? I think their productivity could rise to a new horizon. B.J. and Justin both need a...

Report: Justin Upton Could be Trade Target for Red Sox

Justin Upton has the Red Sox on his no-trade list, but that may not prohibit Boston from pursuing a trade. The Arizona Diamondbacks are shopping Upton, and the Red Sox are expected to explore the trade market for the young outfielder according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald. Fox Sports was the first to report that Upton was on the trading block for the third straight year...

Upton trade no certainty, but options aplenty

PHOENIX -- The general managers' meetings ended Friday as they began, with Diamondbacks big name and big bopper Justin Upton available but unmoved. D-backs GM Kevin Towers has yet to find a deal he cannot refuse, although that does not mean seeds were not sown in Indians Wells, Calif. D-backs presidentCEO Derrick Hall said it is too early to set odds on Upton returning next...

Former Phillies Coach is Suing the Team

Former Philadelphia Phillies batting practice pitcher Ali Modami is suing the Philadelphia Phillies and has Ruben Amaro Jr named as a defendant on the suit. A copy of the suit is below but basically Modami alleges that Amaro told both Dodgers GM Ned Colletti and Nationals GM Mike Rizzo that Modami was fired from the Phillies for stealing and selling memorability. Dodgers first base...

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Is Getting Sued

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr has been named in a lawsuit. Armed with just a street law degree, I found it interesting that Phillies fans could file a class action lawsuit against Amaro just because of the Ryan Howard extension and the Jonathan Papelbon contract. As it turns out, the lawsuit has little to do with Amaro's incompetence with a checkbook.Former batting...

B.J. Upton one of many to reject offers

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) -- Josh Hamilton, B.J. Upton and Kyle Lohse were among nine free agents who turned down 13.3 million offers from their former clubs Friday as the annual general managers' ended and team officials headed home for what figures to be a busy month of negotiations. Also rejecting the one-year guaranteed offers were the New York Yankees' trio of Nick...

Justin Upton Could Be On The Move, D’Backs Engaged In Active Discussions

Once again, the Arizona Diamondbacks are trying to trade right fielder Justin Upton reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Major-league sources, however, say the team is again engaged in active discussions about Upton, and one estimates the chances of him playing elsewhere next season are “80-20.” The Diamondbacks need a shortstop, and Upton possibly could bring them a player...
