KK was great again (AP).

Behind Kyle Kendrick and Dom Brown, the Phillies inched closer to the Cardinals in the Wild Card standings with a 3-1 win over the Marlins.

KENDRICK GOES NO-NO FOR FIVE

-Kendrick did not give up a hit until the sixth inning, after Rob Brantly singled a sharp liner to center field. Two pitches prior to that base hit, Kendrick appeared to have Brantly struck out on a very close pitch, but did not get the benefit from home plate umpire.

-That sixth inning became a struggle for Kendrick after allowing that first hit, but he got out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out Giancarlo Stanton, his eighth of the night, a career high.

-Kendrick owns the Fish, not having lost to the club in over four years. The last time: September 9, 2008. His final line: seven innings, one run, two hits, three walks, and the eight K’s.

-Marlins starter Wade LeBlanc wasn’t half bad. He made a mistake to Dom Brown and had Michael Martinez hustle his way into a run, all of if coming in the fifth. He allowed three runs on four hits in five innings.

DOM BOMB

-Domonic Brown has had a serious lack of power during his latest stint in the major leagues. He struck his first home run on August 22, so it’s been a while since he last put a charge into one. In the fifth inning, he launched a two-run bomb deep to right field off Wade LeBlanc to get the Phillies on the board.

-I’ll state it again; I’ve preached patience with Brown and I think that needs to continue. He’s certainly not hurting the Phillies by being out there, let’s hope this is a stepping stone for a big final month. Brown also drew a walk

-Other than Brown, not much happened with the sticks.

THE PEN IS MIGHTY AGAIN

-Man, have they been good or what? With the youth movement in full effect, Charlie Manuel went to Justin De Fratus for two outs in the eighth and then had Jake Diekman come in for the final out of the inning. With Jonathan Papelbon unavailable, Manuel summoned Antonio Bastardo to shut it down, which he did.

THE WAVE!?

-People started doing the wave in a pretty big spot. With two runners on and one out, the fans tried it out for a while. Not the best time, folks, come on.
