Found April 13, 2012 on Philly Sports World:

After taking the last 2 games against the Miami Marlins, the Philadelphia Phillies are back to .500 and will turn their attention toward the New York Mets enter the game at 4-2 and a half game up on the Phillies.

With the Marlins and Nationals considerably better this year than they have been in the past, series like this one will be increasingly more important to the Phillies.

The Phillies have been known to struggle against teams that are far less talented than them and play well against their peers. The Pirates are a prime example of that. The Phillies have had some serious difficulty beating the Pirates over the last several years, going just 15-12 since 2008 against a team that is perennially one of baseball’s worst. The lone exception being a series at Citizens Bank Park late last July in which the Phillies swept Pittsburgh and started a downward spiral for the Pirates and a 9-game winning streak for the Phils.

With limited firepower, the Phillies may have some trouble staying with some of the better teams in baseball until Ryan Howard and Chase Utley return to the lineup. That makes it even more critical for the Phillies to take advantage of teams that are bad.

The Mets are a bad team.

The Mets will be without their lone remaining star in David Wright, who may see a trip to the DL in the very near future with a broken finger. That just means a bad team is getting worse. Oh sure they won their first 4 games this season, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if that’s their last 4-game winning streak of the season.

The Phillies, who have at times looked punch less on offense, will need to take advantage of a New York Mets team that has become the joke of major league baseball. It’s one way for the Phillies to be able to tread water and add to their win total.

Whether the Phillies can beat up on the Mets might give us an early look at what the Phillies will do against some of the lesser teams. I can’t stress how important it is for these Phillies to win these types of “gimme” series.Similar Posts:

Galvis hears it from Phillies fans

Ryan Howard is Building Himself a Lazy River/Moat

Injured Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard has already earned $65 million at the major league level and this year his 5-year $125 million extension kicks in, so it's fair to say he has some spare loot rattling around the ol' bank account. Eager to divest himself of some of that pesky money, Howard paid $3.5 million for a beachfront lot of land in Belleair, Florida...

Friday the 13th Phillies Nightmare

When one of your ace pitchers gives up 3 runs in the first inning, you know it is going to be a bad day. Add to that having the Mets in town, the 3rd anniversary of Harry Kalas’ death and the fact that it is Friday the 13th and things look pretty grimm. Not that Cliff Lee pitched too badly. He made a few mistakes and the Mets lowered the ax. Making matters worse, the Phillies...
