The Philadelphia Phillies have even more problems on the injury front. They are already without starting pitchers Roy Halladay, who is on the disabled list for shoulder surgery, and John Lannon, who has strained knee tendons. Now, MLB.com’s Stephen Pianovich reports that first baseman Ryan Howard could and catcher Carlos Ruiz will miss substantial time due to injury, and reliver Mike Adams has landed on the disabled list due to a back strain. Howard has had soreness in his left knee all season. He missed the Sunday, May 19, game against the Reds, and he could miss Monday night's game also. MLB.com’s Todd Zolicki tweeted that Howard received a shot on Sunday and is listed as day-to-day. Howard has change in meniscus and inflammation in knee. Had shot yesterday. Day to day for now. — Todd Zolecki (@ToddZolecki) May 20, 2013 Howard has only 6 hits in his last 10 games for a .162 average in that span. For the season, Howard is hitting .245 with 6 HR and 22 RBI. Ruiz did not make the trip to Miami with his team. A May 20 MRI revealed a Grade 2 hamstring pull, which may sideline him for up to three weeks. Ruiz pulled the hamstring running the bases on Sunday. He has played in only 16 games due to his suspension as the season started. He is hitting .235 with 2 RBI.  Zulecki also tweeted the news on Ruiz. Chooch has Grade 2 hamstring strain. Will go on DL tomorrow. — Todd Zolecki (@ToddZolecki) May 20, 2013 Finally, Zolecki reports that Mike Adams is now on the disabled list retroactive to May 11. Admas has a strained back but plans to throw twice by the end of this week. Adams could possibly return to action on May 27. Adams is 1-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 17 appearances in relief. Adams says he plans to throw Thursday and Saturday in Clearwater. Hopes to be active next Monday. — Todd Zolecki (@ToddZolecki) May 20, 2013 The Phillies are already playing below expectations. They enter play on May 20 in third place in the National League East at 21-23, 4.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves. These losses could loom large as they try to stay in contention.   Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?
