MLB Injury News:
In their pursuit of a center fielder, the Philadelphia
Phillies have talked to the Colorado Rockies about a trade involving Dexter
Fowler, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The Phillies are in need of a center fielder, and they’ve
made the position their top priority this offseason. Two of their free agent
targets, B.J. Upton and Angel Pagan, are already off the board. Philadelphia
reportedly isn’t as much of a fit for fellow free agents Michael Bourn and
former Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino.
If not Bourn or Victorino, the Phillies may be forced to
move on to the trade market to find their center fielder. If they target Fowler
he won’t come cheap, as the Rockies seek pitching, both pieces they can plug
into their major league roster now and prospects for later, in return,
according to Rosenthal.
Beyond Fowler, the Phillies have been tied to Los Angeles
Angels outfielder Peter Bourjos.

More from Troy Renck of the Denver Post, and this time it relates directly to the Phillies. First, he recognized the Rockies' interest in a starting pitcher and the fact that their centerfielder Dexter Fowler would be available for the right deal: #Rockies still trying to land a starting pitcher....
In the vein of old-fashioned baseball trades … How about Dexter Fowler for Homer Bailey?
We know this much, from major-league sources: The Colorado Rockies like Bailey, the right-hander who looked like a legitimate No. 2 starter for long stretches of this year. The Cincinnati Reds like Fowler, the antidote to their worst-in-the-majors .581 OPS from the leadoff spot. Now the question...
In a vacuum, you could probably make a decent enough case in favor of exchanging Alex White for Wilton Lopez. As Jeff wrote last week, Lopez is the game’s most extreme high GB/low BB reliever, and this skillset allows him to be an effective late inning reliever. Lopez is a quality arm, and he can be a key piece of a good bullpen. Meanwhile, White has been pretty lousy during...
Right-hander Wilton Lopez, who finished last season as the Houston Astros' closer, was acquired by the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. Houston received right-handed starter Alex White and minor league right-hander Alex Gillingham in the deal. Colorado also will get cash or a player to be named. Lopez likely will serve as a setup man in front of Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt...
Here are some of the latest Mets and MLB updates from late last night…
Joel Sherman tweets that the Mets might budget some of their extra dollars to fill their “severe” hole in the outfield, and he also states the the Mets have interest in Ryan Ludwick. Ludwick turned 34 in July and is coming off a strong season for the Reds, where he batted .275 with 26 HRs and 80 RBI over...
Consider me surprised to hear this news: Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports that the Phillies have "expressed interest" in former Phillies outfielder and 2012 postseason hero Raul Ibañez: Could #Yankees lose on Ibanez too? Source says #Mariners, #Rangers, #Phillies all have expressed interest. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) December 5, 2012...
Lot of news coming from the Winter Meetings in Nashville. Here are the topics that are catching our eye:
Center Field: Looking to Trade?
Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly is reporting that the Phillies have maintained their interest in Dexter Fowler and Peter Bourjos as trade targets. With the departure of Torii Hunter, Bourjos is now projected to be a starting outfielder for the Angels...
The Chicago Cubs have signed Japanese free agent pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa to a two-year, $9.5 million contract, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and the MLB Network reported on Saturday, but the Cubs remained quiet on the subject on Sunday. According to the report, Fujikawa would receive a signing bonus of $1 million, plus $4 million in 2013 and 2014. There also was a vesting option...
The Chicago Cubs have signed Japanese free agent pitcher Kyuji Fujikawa to a two-year, $9.5mm contract, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. He will likely take over as the teams closer.
Fujikawa, 32, played 12 seasons with the Hanshin Tigers. This past season, he appeared in 47 2/3 innings and compiled a 1.32 ERA. In 12 seasons, he totaled 220 saves with a 1.77 ERA.
Danny Espinosa did a fine job of filling in for the Washington Nationals when Ian Desmond was injured, and he did a good job at his normal spot at second base throughout the season. However, he battled a shoulder injury toward to end of this past season, and Steve Lombardozzi performed well enough to replace Espinosa if the Nationals choose to trade him. And it sounds like...
The Texas Rangers have been the most aggressive team in
pursuit of free agent slugger Josh Hamilton, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
#Rangers most aggressive team on Hamilton, according to source. Would ease sting of losing Napoli. #Brewers on periphery with Hamilton.

Rosenthal adds that if the Rangers are...
Also, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi, the Yankees and Cadinals have both shown interesting is Marco Scutaro.
According to Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports, the Texas Rangers are close to signing right handed pitcher Joakim Soria to a two-year deal. As Rosenthal points out, Soria is coming off Tommy John surgery and won't be ready for Opening Day.
Soria, 28, went 5-5 with a 2.70 ERA, 2.91 FIP 9.0 K/9, 2.5 BB/9 and 1.0 HR/9 in 50.0 innings for the Royals in 2011 before injurying...
