The Phillies have taken 22-year old Ender Inciarte 15th overall from the Arizona Diamondbacks’ system. Inciarte is a speedy outfielder who reached High-A Visalia last season at age 21, hitting .319/.377/.419 with 1 HR and 28 steals in eight attempts. The lefty is 5’11 from Venezuela and could be an immediate defensive contributor for the Phillies. Baseball America editor John Manuel notes that Inciarte has drawn comparisons to Endy Chavez. Of note, the Phillies did not lose any players in the MLB portion of the Rule 5 Draft.

Nieves and D-backs complete one-year deal

Catcher Wil Nieves and the Arizona Diamondbacks have completed their $800,000, one-year contract. The sides agreed to the deal Wednesday but Nieves needed to pass a physical. The Diamondbacks announced the signing on Thursday. The 35-year-old Nieves, who wasn't tendered a contract by Arizona last week, batted .306 with a home run and three RBIs in 16 games for the D-backs in...

Diamondbacks still waiting for right deal to materialize

The Arizona Diamondbacks did not acquire a starting pitcher or a shortstop at the winter meetings, their stated goals, but it was not for a lack of trying. General manager Kevin Towers was in meetings with possible trade partners until 6:30 a.m. on the final day of the meetings, but nothing materialized. "I would say we are marinating right now," Towers said. Towers...

Phillies get CF Revere for RHPs Worley, May

The Phillies have acquired outfielder Ben Revere from the Minnesota Twins for right-handers Vance Worley and Trevor May. Revere fills Philadelphia's need for a center fielder. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter batted .294 with 40 stolen bases in 124 games last season. Worley was 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA last year after going 11-3 with a 3.01 ERA as a rookie in 2011 and helping...

Is Phillies gm Amaro done with Rivere and maybe Young in camp?

You got to know when to show ‘em, got to know when to fold ‘em. Poker player Ruben Amaro Jr. invested players, pitcher Vance Worley and pitching prospect Trevor May, to get speedy, young centerfielder Ben Revere from the Twins. Michael Bourn, who they are obviously not pursuing, would cost money and years. Boun will be 30, Revere is 24. Amaro got some money left and may have...

Sources: D-backs add to rotation depth

The Arizona Diamondbacks, seeking to increase their rotation depth, reached agreement Friday with right-hander Brandon McCarthy on a two-year contract, according to major-league sources. The deal is worth $15.5 million, according to the Arizona Republic. The deal, however, is pending a physical. And given McCarthy's chronic shoulder trouble, the physical is not a formality...

Twins Trade Ben Revere to Phillies for Vance Worley and Trevor May

At first glance, the Philadelphia Phillies may have got the better end of this deal.  Yesterday, the Minnesota Twins and the Phillies agreed to a deal to send Ben Revere to Philadelphia for Vance Worley and Trevor May.  Worley is coming off an elbow injury and Trevor May is still proving himself in the minors. Mandy Housenick of the Allentown Morning Call suggests Revere...

MLB Hot Stove Update; Will the Phillies Make a Move?

Major League Baseball's winter meetings always bring their fair share of rumors, signings, and significant trades. This year, the Philadelphia Phillies have been linked to almost every big name player on the market. Their number one need, of course, is a starting centerfielder to take the place of former Phillie Shane Victorino. Victorino just inked a three-year, $39 million...

Michael Young to the Phillies is gaining steam

The Philadelphia Phillies may be getting close to filling their hole at third base, and it's from a source you may have not expected: the Texas Rangers. The Rangers and Phillies are apparently discussing a trade that would send long-time Ranger (and classy, professional hitter) Michael Young to Philly in exchange for a "young major league reliever and a low level prospect...

Not done yet! Phils hoping Young to follow

The Phillies haven't made any news this off-season, but they may be about to become very loud. After completing a deal for Ben Revere, reports have a deal for Michael Young done and awaiting his approval. With center field filled, what would the addition of Young mean for the Phillies?

What Ben Revere adds to the Phillies

It's only fitting that a guy with the patriotic last name of Revere would wind up playing in Philadelphia. The Phillies gave up a lot to get Revere, so the expectations will be high for the new center fielder. Here's what to expect from the newest Phillie.

Diamondbacks Sign Eric Chavez

The third base market continues to clear. Eric Chavez is now off the market, as the Diamondbacks signed the veteran to a one-year, $3 million deal Wednesday. As the contract suggests, Chavez is unlikely to be a full-time player in Arizona. However, given the myriad struggles the club experienced at third base last season, we can expect Chavez to play a significant role. He hit .281...
