Kicking off an important road trip with a win, the Phillies knocked off the very bad Miami Marlins 3-1 behind John Lannan and the bullpen. Lannan pitched 6 innings allowing only 3 hits a run and walking only 1. The bullpen did the rest keeping the Marlins scoreless the rest of the way and closing out the 10th inning Papelbon earned his second save. Ben Revere scored what was the winning run in the 10th on an RBI triple by Chase Utley. Utley scored the third and final run on an infield single by Michael Young. Not exactly a strong performance by the Phillies offensively who scattered 10 hits for the night, but a win is a win. The Marlins who are dead last in the NL East got good pitching throughout the night behind Ricky Nolasco and the bullpen. Jon Rauch took the loss after giving up 2 runs in the tenth. Important road trip as these are the games the Phillies need to win (against bad teams) to keep pace with Atlanta and Washington. Ben Revere and Chase Utley continue their strong start in a lineup that overall is struggling.Similar Posts: So as Jimmy Rollins goes will the Phillies go Let the season begin, Phillies opening day hope Phillies Odds and Ends: Revere, Brown, starting pitching Phillies role player review: Freddy Galvis, Kevin Frandsen 2013 Phillies bullpen, best in the majors?
