On May 30, the Toledo Mud Hens, Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, will be donning Ghostbusters-inspired uniforms when they take they field. The unique drabs were unveiled via the team's official Twitter account today.Although it isn't likely intentional, the reveal by the Mud Hens comes during a sensitive time for Ghostbusters fans, considering Harold Ramis passed away on Tuesday. Still, it's cool to see Toledo playing homage to a timeless classic.Via The Big Lead

Since joining the Detroit Tigers, Joba Chamberlain looks different. And, no, I'm not talking about his "look at me...I'm free from the New York Yankees!" beard. This. What we noticed when we saw this picture of Joba Chamberlain pitching today. #Tigers14 pic.twitter.com/ixHNwQdCp4 — Freep Sports (@freepsports) February 27, 2014 The reliever, who...
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Drew Smyly started his return to the rotation Wednesday after pitching out of the bullpen all of last season.
Smyly, who started Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves, threw two innings for the first time since last June 23.
Smyly allowed one run on two hits while walking one and striking out two.
"I thought it went well," Smyly said. "...
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Rick Porcello is awfully businesslike for a 25-year-old.
But that's because he's serious about his pitching and contributing to getting the Tigers back to the playoffs.
Porcello has already won 61 games in the big leagues despite his youth. But he's striving to be better.
Porcello started his first spring game Thursday at home against the Atlanta Braves...

LAKELAND, Fla. -- It's still early in spring training, but the Tigers' Jose Iglesias will already have to take a little break.
Manager Brad Ausmus revealed Friday morning that Iglesias has "inflammation and stress reaction in both shins."
Ausmus said Igelesias had an MRI, which ruled out stress fractures. Ausmus expects his shortstop to be out about a week.
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Through no fault of his own, Robbie Ray will always be known as one of the players the Tigers acquired from the Washington Nationals for Doug Fister.
Although the trade was criticized, there's nothing Ray, Ian Krol and Steve Lombardozzi can do about it, other than play to the best of their abilities.
Ray's abilities were on display in Tuesday's annual...
James Scheml over at Mlive.com has an article about new Tigers’ skipper Brad Ausmus wanting Jim Leyland around Leyland, who is serving as a special assistant to Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski, officially arrived to camp Tuesday for the first time this spring and briefly met with a handful of players before the team’s exhibition […]
Detroit newcomers Joba Chamberlain and Joe Nathan each pitched a scoreless inning Thursday, helping the Tigers beat the Atlanta Braves 5-2.
Chamberlain and Nathan were brought in to solidify a Tigers bullpen that struggled through much last season. Chamberlain, the right-hander who foundered with the Yankees in 2013, had a strikeout. Nathan, who had 43 saves for Texas last year...
Joba Chamberlain lost nearly all of the 2011 baseball season to Tommy John surgery. But now, he’s turned the aftereffects of that injury into a little comic relief.
The Detroit Free Press posted a photo sequence of photos Wednesday revealing that Chamberlain, who signed with the Tigers in the offseason after spending his entire career with the New York Yankees, used four small...
Joba Chamberlain is has not quite been the same pitcher since prior to his Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow in June of 2011. He’s now battling for a setup job with the Tigers and if he needs any reminder of what he’s come back from all he has to do is look down at the inside of his right elbow. What he’ll see is quite possibly the best tattoo in baseball.
We have followed Justin Verlander's pre-game date diet life rather closely here at D4L. When Verlander broke the news on Conan in 2012 that he would eat Taco Bell the night before every start, all the major tabloids picked up the story and it became quite the phenomenon. It added a whole new element to scrutinizing his every start -- He gave up how many runs? Well, did he eat...
I made it into the Tigers’ clubhouse right as it opened this morning. It’s like most of the other spring training clubhouses. A bit more cramped than some because Joker Marchant is a bit older, but it’s the same scene you always see. At least physically. In terms of vibe it felt much looser than many I’ve been to.
Miguel Cabrera has a lot to do with that. Unlike a lot of...
The Tigers are one of the 15 teams wearing Celtic BP Jerseys on St. Patrick’s day this year. Their BP came out better than most:
They benefit from having a BP template that has only white writing on it, thus it goes with the jersey. It would have been interesting to see the orange D on this jersey. That also would have looked nice.
After undergoing Tommy John surgery back in 2011, Tigers reliever Joba Chamberlain made light of the scar by turning it into a smiley face.
It makes you kinda wonder what he’s going to do with what I’m assuming is a pretty nasty scar on his ankle?

An eight-run outburst in the bottom of the third leads to the Phils first Grapefruit League victory as they defeat the Tigers, 10-6. The Tigers took the lead in the top of the first as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Andy Dirks, and walks to Jordan Lennerton and Austin Jackson, and with […]
