Despite recurring back problems, Carlos Zambrano apparently felt well enough after his abbreviated start Aug. 1 against the Florida Marlins that he didn't seek treatment from the training staff in the days before his scheduled start Friday. Manager Lou Piniella on Tuesday disputed reports that Zambrano hadn't cared for his ailing back, saying he was doing his exercise regimen but felt good enough to believe he didn't need help from the training staff.
