The Bucs broke out the bats to neutralize a pretty ugly night of pitching on Tuesday, and the result was another comfortable victory against the Giants. We finally saw the Pirates really explode on offense – they pounded a season high 18 hits and scored a season high 12 runs. Barry Zito was bad (as he has been all season on the road), but the Pirates were able to take full advantage and then some. The effort was led by the top of the order – Starling Marte, Jordy Mercer, and Andrew McCutchen went 8 for their first 8 on the night and combined for 10 hits total. Marte added two stolen bases to his 4-for-4 night, and McCutchen took advantage of all the baserunners with 3 RBI’s. The middle of the order brought home several runs as well – Russell Martin, Pedro Alvarez, and Neil Walker all had hits and RBI’s.
