AKA, the Josh Harrison show: Your browser does not support iframes. Harrison did that, had two hits (including a 2-out RBI single), a walk, and a very nice baserunning play (tagging up from first on a deep fly out) that enabled him to score the go-ahead run. J-Hay has done it all since sliding in to the outfield and taking over the leadoff spot. He deserves all kinds of props for giving the Bucs a spark, good production on offense, and some highlight-reel plays on defense (in an unfamiliar position). It sure is nice to see some good things happening in RF while we continue to wait for Polanco. Edinson Volquez also had a terrific start – something he and the Pirates needed badly. His rotation spot is now safe for the time being. The bullpen held the lead for Volquez, although out of the trio of Jeanmar Gomez, Tony Watson, and Mark Melancon, Gomez unexpectedly had the easiest inning. Andrew McCutchen also had a big night – an RBI single, an RBI HBP, and a web gem to end the game in a ...

Pittsburgh Pirates baseball: Wandy Rodriguez is no longer a Pirates, is that enough?

Brandon Cumpton The Pittsburgh Pirates designated Wandy Rodriguez for assignment on Thursday thus ending his career with the Pirates. Rodriguez came to the Pirates in 2012 in a trade that sent Triple A all-star left handed pitcher Rudy Owens, left hander Colton Cain and outfielder Robbie Grossman to the Astros. Rodriguez performed admirably for the Pirates in his limited starts for...

Carribuyin’ This Pirate Before He Walks The Polanco

It's about that time, prematurely balding men and four girl readers. Gregory Polanco is nearing his call-up date. He is basically a young version of Starling Marte. As of this writing, he's 22 years old. I'm hoping he's still 22 years old when I'm done writing this post otherwise I spent way too much time on it. He can be a superstar, which has me excited...

Andrew McCutchen rips pandas in ‘MLB 14: The Show’ spot

‘MLB 14: The Show’ has released their latest ad in a fantastic “Baseball Is Better” promotional campaign, and it features Pittsburgh Pirates star Andrew McCutchen airing his grievances towards Pandas for their inability to play baseball. And, to be quite honest, he really has a point. Get your sh*t together, Pandas. The post Andrew McCutchen Is Fed Up With Pandas Sucking...

Pirates' Jason Grilli eyes Saturday return

While his autobiographical work Just My Game, may have fallen just short of the New York Times best sellers list, Pittsburgh Pirates closer Jason Grilli can take solace that his return to the active roster is imminent.Clint Hurdle said it's a 'realistic' timetable for Jason Grilli to be activated from the DL ok Saturday— Travis Sawchik (@Sawchik_Trib) May 21, 2014 On...

Wandy Rodriguez DFA’d

- The Wandy Rodriguez era is over in Pittsburgh. The Bucs designated him for assignment after he was shelled again last night. His diastrous 2014 numbers: 0-2, 6.75 ERA, just 26.2 innings over 6 starts, and 10 home runs allowed. As I (and several others) wrote after the game last night, this was a no brainer. Wandy just doesn’t look like he has enough left to be even mediocre...

Andrew McCutchen lectures Pandas in new MLB 14 The Show commercial

I mean, come on pandas, get your act together. Tigers, Blue Jays and Cardinals already have a presence in Major League Baseball, but pandas don’t. It’s past time for that to change. That’s the message of a new MLB 14 The Show commercial starring Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen. Continuing the “Baseball is Better” theme started with an earlier commercial featuring...

The Pirates have cut bait on Wandy Rodriguez

The @Pirates have reinstated @russellmartin55 from the DL. To make room for Martin, Wandy Rodriguez has been designated for assignment. — Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) May 22, 2014

Andrew McCutchen Says Pandas Can’t Compete With MLB 14 The Show

Baseball’s Ambassador, Andrew McCutchen, takes his message that #BASEBALLisBETTER straight to the people. And the pandas. One time I am pretty sure a panda was plotting to attack me at the Zoo, so McCutchen better be careful.  How great are those graphics by the way. http://facebook.com/MLBTheShow http://twitter.com/MLBTheShow

Game 45: Pirates 9 Orioles 8

OK, so, here’s the situation: the modem that gives me internet in my apartment is broken. I’ve been told that they need to send a serviceperson to my apartment to fix it rather than have me just drop off the broken modem and get a new one, because they’re concerned the wiring in my building has gone bad. This would all be fine, except that my lease is up on May 31st, the moving...

Game 46: Pirates 3 Nationals 1

The Pirates have certainly been playing a little bit better of late (they’re now 10-8 in their last 18 games, which is a pace that will eventually get them back to around .500, but not much of anywhere else), but a lot of the wins have been these crazy, frantic affairs where the starters melt down or the bullpen melts down and the Pirates need a clutch hit or a huge rally or something...

Death, taxes, and Andrew McCutchen killing the Nationals

"In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." Benjamin Franklin forgot to mention Andrew McCutchen killing the Nationals. Pirates 3, Nationals 1: Of course it had to be Andrew McCutchen robbing Anthony Rendon with a sensational sliding catch in the 9th with two on and two out to save the game. McCutchen in 31 career games vs #Nats: .397...

Thornton’s Deceptive Pitching Style Keeping Hitters Off Balance

When the Mets finally unloaded Ike Davis, they sent him to the Pittsburgh Pirates and in return they received relief pitcher Zack Thornton and a player to be named later. Thornton, was signed by the... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Nationals Go North To Face Pirates In Pittsburgh

After their storied season in 2013, the Pittsburgh Pirates (19-26) aren’t quite the Cinderella they were last year. The carriage that carried them to the postseason turned back into a pumpkin, and they once again find themselves with a losing record. When the Washington Nationals (24-22) head north to PNC Park they shouldn’t give the Pirates much leeway to climb back toward ...

Who’s Hot/Who’s Not Lower Minors: Herrera Still Sizzling, Kuebler Struggling In St. Lucie
