As per Jason Grilli’s Twitter account, he has been acquired by the Pirates. Grilli is happy to be with Pittsburgh as his repeated “Black and Yellow! Black and Yellow!” and “cannot wait to join the new squadron” claims show.
Grilli, 34, has a 1.93 ERA, 11.8 K/9, 3.3 BB/9, and 0.6 HR/9 in 32 2/3 innings for the Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate this year. We first mentioned the Pirates had interest in Grilli yesterday, along with some other bullpen rumors.
Grilli pitched for Hurdle in 2008, so there is a natural built-in connection there already. No word yet on what the Pirates gave up for Grilli, but it will probably be a Player To Be Named Later, cash, or lower-tier type of guy. We will update when we hear it.
