So much for all that momentum the Milwaukee Brewers brought back from their recent road trip. The Pittsburgh Pirates scored six runs off Randy Wolf in the third inning, then went on to pound the Brewers 8-2 on Friday night. And Ryan Braun left the game after the seventh inning with another injury worry, aggravating the lingering tightness in his right Achilles tendon and straining his right hip. ''The danger in trying to play through an injury constantly, is it's easy to re-irritate it,'' Braun said. ''Your body also compensates so it's easy to hurt something else. I don't think it's too bad, but it doesn't feel too good right now.'' Kevin Correia (2-5) gave up two runs and five hits in 5 2-3 innings for the Pirates, who have won six of their last seven games. The Pirates came into Friday's game with a 4-38 record at Miller Park since the start of the 2007 season. ''We didn't play a good game today,'' Br...

Braun, Ramirez out for series finale

MILWAUKEE For 18 consecutive games, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke has put together a starting lineup that was different than the game before. But on Sunday morning, picking that starting lineup took longer than it has all season. "It took some discussion," Roenicke said. That's because for the first time this season the Brewers will be without both Ryan Braun and...

Braun back for Brewers, Achilles issue lingers

Ryan Braun is back in the lineup for the Milwaukee Brewers, but lingering tightness in his right Achilles tendon is still an issue. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke says Braun's status changes daily, ''so it's hard knowing where we are with it.'' Roenicke says the problem won't keep him out of the lineup for an extended period of time but can limit his ability...

Onetime batboy now a starter for Brewers

MILWAUKEE Cody Ransom doesn't remember much from the experience, but the shortstop's career with the Milwaukee Brewers actually started much, much earlier than that of any active player on Milwaukee's roster. As a grade school kid growing up in Chandler, Ariz., Ransom lived only a few miles from the Brewers' spring training facility. And since Ransom's family...

Everything clicks for Brewers in L.A. sweep

As quietly as possible, in four games, the Milwaukee Brewers swept major league baseball's best team. As quietly as possible, the Brewers seemed to fix every problem that had sent them on a slide to the bottom of the National League to start 2012. The dominant pitching of 2011 was back, including an impressive debut win from a lightly-regarded prospect in Michael Fiers. And...

Roenicke guides Brewers with a steady hand

MILWAUKEE Ron Roenicke's face tells a quiet narrative of the Brewers' season thus far. The Brewers manager is far from expressive. He's rarely one to let his emotions get the best of him. He is, by all accounts, the anti-Ozzie Guillen. But the subtle changes the furled brow, the confusion in his eyes, the wrinkles on his forehead say something understated about Roenicke...

McGehee on Brewers: 'It's nice to see them'

MILWAUKEE Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke has said it. Right fielder Corey Hart and other Brewers players have, too. With the turnover the club had in the offseason, the clubhouse hasn't quite been the lively, boisterous place it was in 2011. But on Friday, part of that 2011 equation returned to Miller Park. The problem was it was wearing the other team's uniform...

Brewers open long homestand against Pirates

The Milwaukee Brewers return to Miller Park riding their longest winning streak of the season. Given the Brewers' history at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates, there's a good chance that run will continue. Milwaukee goes for a fifth straight victory Friday night when these NL Central rivals begin their season series. Back from a 5-2 trip, the Brewers (23-28) open a nine...

Stakes even higher for trades this year

The Brewers were more than willing to trade two top prospects for left-hander CC Sabathia in July 2008, and not simply because they were getting one of the best pitchers in the game. No, the Brewers also knew that they could possibly replace the youngsters -- first baseman Matt LaPorta and outfielder Michael Brantley -- with the two high draft picks they would collect if Sabathia...

New MLB landscape alters D-backs' outlook

The Brewers were more than willing to trade two top prospects for left-hander CC Sabathia in July 2008, and not simply because they were getting one of the best pitchers in the game. Making a statement in Milwaukee

The Pirates were able to keep on rolling on Friday night, despite the dreaded visit to the place that has haunted them for years. The Bucs and Brewers did indeed look like very different teams from the ones we’re used to seeing when they match up, and for Pirate fans, that was a beautiful sight. The game started out like a typical Milwaukee mess, though. Jose Tabata drew a leadoff...

GAMEDAY: Pirates at Brewers

Pirates (25-25) at Brewers (23-28) 8:10 PM EST–Miller Park, Milwaukee Here is the MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT Sports Dun dun dun. Time for the Brewers and dreaded Miller Park, where the Pirates are an absurd 4-38 in their last 42 games. That is unfathomably awful. You know that, I know that, everybody that follows either of these teams knows that. It has to stop eventually, right...

GIFcap: Brooks Conrad checked into wall by umpire, Michael Saunders catches ball with face

I know the umpire was just trying to get into position, but in the GIF, it certainly looks like he’s purposely trying to check Brooks Conrad into oblivion. If the goal for the defense on a fly ball was to let the ball hit you directly in the face, Michael Saunders wins

Pirates-Brewers Preview

Maybe the Pittsburgh Pirates' fortunes at Miller Park are taking a turn for the better. They are in position for a rare series victory in Milwaukee, with Ryan Braun's status in doubt. The Pirates can capture a road set against the Brewers for the second time in the last six seasons Saturday night, and it's not clear if Braun will play. Pittsburgh (26-25) won for the...
