Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Chris Snyder will miss the remainder of the season with a back injury.
The 30-year-old Snyder had surgery in June, but did not feel comfortable about returning to the diamond.
"The calendar got the best of us," Snyder told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. "It's tough for me to get back and push it and, possibly, be ready for the last handful of games. And that would put pressure on (general manager Neal Huntington) to make a roster move that late in the season. The best-case scenario for both sides is this is it."
Snyder batted .271 with three homers with 17 RBIs in 34 games this season.
