Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Chris Snyder underwent surgery Friday for a herniated disk.Snyder, who was injured while sliding into second base in Wednesday's game, was transferred from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list.Typical recovery time for such a procedure is four to six weeks.The Pirates are perilously thin at catcher with starter Ryan Doumit expected to miss at least another month with an ankle injury.Snyder, 30, is hitting. 271 with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 34 games. Dusty Brown has been starting in his place.
