This is what going to a Monday afternoon make-up ballgame by yourself is all about. Seriously. I love that kid. Truth be told, I’m kinda jealous. I have been to, let’s say, a couple thousand pro ballgames in my life. I have never, not once, caught a foul ball. Even when I was the guy buying the balls, I never caught one. When you work in baseball, you really don’t have time to actually watch the game very often, so I can see that…but I have been to Wrigley Field…and the cathedral known as old Comiskey Park…when there were as few or fewer fans as there are in PNC Park today in Pittsburgh, and still never got a ball.
One time in 1993, I was sitting in Section 424 at Wrigley with a buddy on a cold, cold night in April when a foul off the bat of catcher Rick Wilkins came back to us, but my friend got it and in his zeal ended up dumping hot chocolate in my ear. Not that great of a story, really.
