Pittsburgh is the third team this season for Qualls, who began the year with Philadelphia and was acquired in a trade with the New York Yankees on Tuesday. He is 2-1 with a 4.89 ERA this season.

According to a source, right-handed reliever Daniel McCutchen is expected to join Pittsburgh to replace Brad Lincoln’s spot in the bullpen.
McCutchen posted a 3.40 ERA over 45.0 innings this season at Triple-A.
Lincoln was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays last night in a deal that sent outfielder Travis Snider to the Pirates.

In order to balance out the roster with a correct amount of hitters and pitchers following last night’s Travis Snider trade, the Pirates announced they have designated Drew Sutton for...

Interesting - the Pirates replaced Brad Lincoln by acquiring Chad Qualls from the Yankees, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
They got infielder Casey McGehee in return. With Gaby Sanchez joining the Pirates he was expendable.
I sure wish the Phillies had gotten that return.

News of the deal came just after the trade deadline as the Pirates and Yankees were able to squeak out a deal that will send corner infielder Casey McGehee to the Yankees for right-handed reliever Chad Qualls.

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired right-handed pitcher Chad Qualls from the New York Yankees
in exchange for infielder Casey McGehee and cash considerations.
Daniel McCutchen was recalled from Indianapolis and Drew Sutton was Designated For Assignment. I guess Sutton knew last last night after all. We will always remember that walk-off. Godspeed Mr. Sutton. McCutchen takes Lincoln’s spot in the bullpen. Bryan Morris stays in Indy. The Pirates trade Gorkys Hernandez and their competitive-balance pick to the Marlins [...]
The Yankees have obtained third baseman Casey McGehee from Pittsburgh for reliever Chad Qualls, a move that follows injuries to Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira.
McGehee, 29, is hitting .230 with eight homers and 35 RBIs.
The 33-year-old Qualls was acquired by the Yankees from Philadelphia on July 1 and made eight appearances.
Rodriguez is on the disabled list after breaking a...
Last year's trade deadline all of a sudden looks tame. Neal Huntington went nuts over the past day acquiring pieces to potentially improve the Pittsburgh Pirates. The key word in that statement in potentially. It is no secret what the front office was trying to do. They weren't renting players like they did last year for an ultimately futile run. They made...
In need of infield reinforcement with Alex Rodriguez sidelined due to a broken left hand and Mark Teixeira nursing a sore left wrist, the New York Yankees acquired Casey McGehee from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for reliever Chad Qualls. McGehee, 29, has been the Pirates' regular first baseman this season, but he was the Milwaukee Brewers' regular third baseman the...
After acquiring Gaby Sanchez earlier in the afternoon, the Pirates got one more deal in before the deadline. They sent Casey McGehee to the Yankees for relief pitcher Chad Qualls.
The acquisition of Sanchez made McGehee expendable, which was pretty much the reason for the move. Qualls isn’t very good, and will probably become the last man out of the bullpen.
More on this (and the...
Got 2d confirm, #Yankeess did get McGehee for Qualls

This is apretty minor move and more of a compliment to the Gaby Sanchez deal than anything else (McGehee becomes redundant if the Pirates bring Sanchez up right away), but man, Chad Qualls is terrible. If he ends up on the roster instead of Bryan Morris, I will be pretty unhappy.
UPDATE 4:27 PM: Sherman updates that it’s $250,000.
UPDATE 4:25 PM: Sherman reports that the Pirates are sending $225,000 to the Yankees as part of the deal. That will probably come out of the $11.5 M the Yankees are sending the Pirates for A.J. Burnett.
UPDATE 4:11 PM: Qualls is under team control through the end of the year. He’s making $1.15 M this year, and not having a good...
Man, Neal Huntington has put in more work during the trade deadline than Fronk Coonelly does at happy hour. Just when we thought the Gaby Sanchez deal was the last the Pirates would make, Neal squeezed in one last trade, this time with his trade buddies, the Yankees. The last time Neal and the Yanks made a deal at the deadline, the Buccos stole Jeff Karstens, Daniel McCutchen and...
