Manager Clint Hurdle is excited to bring his Pittsburgh Pirates to the place where he was previously employed, but he knows they'll have to play much better than they did over the weekend. The Pirates have lost four straight and are 0-6 all-time in Arlington heading into Monday night's opener of a three-game set against a Texas Rangers team that has lost four straight starts by major league strikeout leader Yu Darvish. Hurdle spent 2010 as the Rangers' batting coach, helping the franchise reach its first World Series before he was hired to manage Pittsburgh (81-61) the next season. "I'm absolutely looking forward to it," Hurdle told the Pirates' official website. "I made a lot of friends. The makeup of the club has changed quite a bit - but there are still some stalwarts there." The Pirates will be trying to regroup after being outscored 26-10 in three games in St. Louis - falling out of first place in the NL Central and hampering their ch...

Pirates starter Morton leaves game with injury

Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton left with an apparent injury in the second inning Sunday at St. Louis. Morton had allowed five runs on six hits and walking two in 1 1-2 innings before manager Clint Hurdle came to the mound. Charlie Morton takes the mound with first place on the line

There have been a couple of points in the last month where it was easy to say, "If the Pirates don't start playing better, they're going to be in third place soon," but with the Reds just a game behind them, playing great baseball right now and an easy schedule ahead, we're really entering into the Third Place Danger Zone. When the Pirates went out west to play...

Game 142: Cardinals 9 Pirates 2

This weekend went about as badly for the Pirates as you would've dared to believe that it could on Friday. Not only did the Pirates lose three times, but they got blown off of the field three times in the sort of fashion that leaves you turning the Sunday game off in the second inning when you it's 5-0 and Charlie Morton is leaving the game with some kind of injury, and telling...

Why I’m anti-Pirates

Ok so we made a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates recently acquiring Vic Black and Dilson Herrera in exchange for Marlon Byrd and John Buck. We seem to have made out well and pretty much everyone seems happy with this deal. …and it is sort of nice to see the Pirates doing well after having been down for so long. In fact, it sort of gives me hope that the Mets will also see...
