Chris Snyder

The Pittsburgh Pirates have sent reliever D.J. Carrasco, outfielder Ryan Church, and infielder Bobby Crosby to the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the trade for catcher Chris Snyder.  The deal is basically Carrasco for Snyder, as Church and Crosby have no value, and will basically be traded to off-set salaries.

Snyder is owed $1,687,159 for the remainder of the season.  The trio the Pirates sent out are owed $1,225,410 for the remainder of the season, with Church and Crosby taking up $887,978 of that amount.  Arizona is also expected to send cash in the deal, most likely to cover some of the $6.5 M that Snyder has guaranteed beyond the 2010 season.

Argenis Diaz and Jeff Clement will be called up to replace Church and Crosby on the 25-man roster.  Daniel McCutchen will most likely take Carrasco’s spot, as McCutchen is the scheduled starter tonight.

The move leaves three open spots on the 40-man roster, with Snyder taking one of those spots.  There have been rumors today involving Octavio Dotel and Paul Maholm, so there’s a good chance those open spots get filled by prospects before the trade deadline passes.
