Grilli
The Pittsburgh Pirates are bringing back Jason Grilli.  Grilli spent the last two seasons in Pittsburgh before becoming a free agent.  The Pirates allowed him to test the market before ultimately bringing him back. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports first reported the news yesterday. Source: Grilli back to #Pirates. Two-year deal. Pending physical. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) December 10, 2012 The deal is reportedly worth $6.75 million.  Grilli is getting a nice raise with this contract.  He made $1.1 million in 2012. Grilli has been solid for the Pirates out of the bullpen.  In his two seasons with Pittsburgh, Grilli has posted a 2.76 ERA.  The 10-year veteran has spent time with six different teams in his career.  He has a record of 21-25 with a 4.34 ERA. Grilli suffered a knee injury in 2010 that cost him the entire season.  Since then though, he has been healthy.  Grilli appeared in 64 games for the Pirates last season.  He appeared in 28 games for them in 2011 after the Pirates picked him up off the streets and signed him to a free agent deal. First Pitch: Joel Hanrahan’s Trade Value and Jason Grilli’s Contract

Last Thursday I wrote about Joel Hanrahan’s future with the team if the Pirates were to sign Jason Grilli. The Pirates signed Grilli today to a two-year, $6.75 M deal. Hanrahan is projected to make about $7 M in arbitration, which means the Pirates would be spending a little over $10 M on two relievers if they kept Hanrahan around. I’ve said most of the off-season that I think...

Pending physical. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) December 10, 2012 I assume this time it’s real, unlike last Thursday which was full of “he’s signing”, followed by Grilli denying each report. I only assume...

Jason Grilli is back

According to Ken Rosenthal, Jason Grilli will be re-signing with the Pirates (for real this time). It’s a two year deal worth $7 million, pending a physical. Grilli is 36 and didn’t have a great second half in 2012, but he has been a valuable part of the Pirates’ bullpen since Neal Huntington snatched him from Philly last summer. In 2012 he was quite effective as an 8th inning...

Some quick hits... - Frankly, i have no idea what effect this has on anything, but the Cubs are one of three teams to have opted out of the MLB/StubHub agreement that was recently renewed. I imagine tickets for Wrigley will still be available on StubHub, but not in some official capacity. I also imagine the Ricketts didn't like seeing tickets going for $2 on game day on StubHub...
