The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed right handed reliever Tim Wood to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training, per a team press release.  Wood played in the Pirates’ organization in 2011, including throwing eight innings in the majors.    In his time in AAA he put up some impressive numbers, with a 2.84 ERA in 44.1 innings, along with a 32:12 K/BB ratio.  He’s yet to make the successful jump to the majors, with a career 4.50 ERA in 58 innings, along with a 4.3 K/9 and a 5.1 BB/9.  However, his arm is intriguing, with a fastball that sat in the upper 90s in AAA last year, and a hard slider that was in the high 80s/low 90s.

Wood was traded in August to the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations.  He made four appearances with Round Rock, the Rangers’ AAA affiliate.
