The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded outfielder Jonathan Van Every to the Boston Red Sox, according to Rob Biertempfel. Van Every was acquired by the Pirates last year after being released by the Red Sox. In 35 at-bats in Indianapolis this year, he put up a .314/.368/.543 line, with two homers. Van Every is 30 years old, so he's not really a prospect, but he could have made a decent bench player, with a chance to be the Garrett Jones of 2010.

The Red Sox currently have a lot of outfield injuries, so there's a chance Van Every could end up in the majors soon. He has a .286/.355/.464 line in just 28 major league at-bats, with one homer, in his previous time with the Red Sox. Of course, he could just be AAA filler with the Red Sox recently calling up Darnell McDonald and Josh Reddick to replace Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron in the majors.
