A.J. Burnett’s 2013 season didn’t get off to the greatest of starts yesterday, as the Bucs hurler took the loss after Pittsburgh fell to the Cubs (the Cubs?!?!?) 3-1. It wasn’t all Burnett’s fault—he gave up 3 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, while striking out 10—as his team only managed three hits and one measly run off Chicago starter Jeff Samardzija, who was brilliant, giving up only two hits and no runs in eight innings of work.
Not only did Burnett’s teammates let him down, so too did the rosin bag, as the thing exploded on the Pittsburgh starter in an impressive cloud of white dust. No word on whether this was some April Fools’ prank played on Burnett by his mates, or just a stroke of bad luck. One thing’s for sure, it made quite the powdery mess.
As for the clean up, insert obligatory Lindsay Lohan joke here.
