Last season was an interesting one for Ervin Santana. Always known as a fly ball pitcher, Santana posted a career best 43.5 ground ball percentage, which helped him also post career bests in BABIP (.272) and LOB% (76.6) and if we know anything about those stats it’s that they help a pitcher’s ERA a lot. Well, lo and behold, Santana posted a career best ERA at 3.38! There is probably some regression in his near future and he also suffers from Average Joe syndrome. That’s to say he doesn’t really own any stat categories. Best case scenario: Shaun Marcum (MIL) Similar players: Edwin Jackson (FA), John Danks (CHW), Ted Lilly (LAD) Worst case scenario: Aaron Harang (LAD) Strengths Ballpark, support. Santana’s role as a fourth starter on the Angels isn’t a reflection on his talents as a pitcher. With Jered Weaver, Dan Haren and C.J.
