Adam Jones had a nice coming-out party last year. In 2009 he hit 19 homers in 119 games, but in 2010 he failed to improve upon that total, hitting 19 again in 149 games. Last season the power rate returned to that ’09 level as Jones finished the year with 25 homers, 83 RBI and a solid .280 average. I have a hard time seeing Jones really topping 12 steals — he could add two or three more — but I do think there’s still a little room for growth in the home run column. Jones hits fly balls just a third of the time, 33.0 percent last season and 33.4 percent for his career, so even a high-30s rate could result in a 30-homer season, and Jones, now the Orioles’ projected cleanup hitter, just might be asked to do that.
Best case scenario: Hunter Pence (HOU)
Similar players: Alex Gordon (KC), Asdrubal Cabrera (CLE), Carlos Beltran (STL)
Worst case scenario: Nick Markakis (BAL)

Right-hander Brad Bergesen and the Baltimore Orioles have argued their cases in salary arbitration.
Bergesen asked for a raise from $434,000 to $1.2 million during Wednesday's hearing, and the Orioles argued he should be paid $800,000.
A decision by arbitrators Robert Herzog, Mark Burstein and Elizabeth Neumeier is expected Thursday.
Bergesen was 2-7 with a 5.70 ERA in 12...
O’s Trade Jeremy Guthrie to Rockies, Get No Younger or Better
This morning, the Orioles traded pitcher Jeremy Guthrie to the Colorado Rockies. Guthrie was engaged in arbitration hearings with the club, where he had reportedly submitted a salary number of over $10 million. According to the same report, the O’s submitted a number of 7.25 million; rather than try to bridge the gap, they shipped the veteran right-hander to Colorado.

Not a fan of the Jeremy Guthrie trade...
This afternoon, I asked people's feelings on the Jeremy Guthrie trade on Twitter, and from what I got, people hate it. I'm a bit confused why this trade happened now (despite Guthrie's arbitration hearing) and what the team got in return.
That being said, Dan Duquette held a press conference with the local and electronic media this afternoon about the trade. I didn&...

Rockies and Orioles swap innings eaters
The Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies made a rare February trade today, with Baltimore sending starter Jeremy Guthrie to the Rockies in exchange for starter Jason Hammel and reliever Matt Lindstrom. Guthrie then immediately agreed to an $8.2 million contract in his final year of arbitration.
I don't understand this deal at all for either team. Guthrie is a solid starter...

The Schmuck Stops Here: No Guts, no glory for Orioles
Right-hander Jeremy Guthrie has been the cornerstone of the Orioles' starting rotation for the past few years, which is probably not saying a whole lot, but you still have to give him credit for going out there and taking one -- or 17, in the case of 2011 -- for the team. He was a good soldier and he is a pretty good pitcher, but he's in a better place now.

Some Orioles thoughts (Bergesen, more moves, Manny and Camden Yards)

Rox acquire Guthrie in trade with Orioles
The Rockies were looking for an experienced arm to put atop their young rotation, but not just any veteran would do. One of those few names was Jeremy Guthrie, whom the Rockies acquired from the Orioles on Monday in exchange for right-handers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom.
Rockies to get RHP Guthrie from Orioles (AP)
A person familiar with the deal says the Colorado Rockies have agreed to trade pitchers Matt Lindstrom and Jason Hammel to the Baltimore Orioles for right-hander Jeremy Guthrie. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the trade has yet to be announced.
