Chase Hampton was born in Longview, Texas, on August 7, 2001. He played high school baseball at Kilgore High School in Kilgore, Texas. At Kilgore, he made 46 appearances, going 36-10 with a 1.94 ERA and 284 strikeouts in 162 innings. By the end of his high school career, Hampton was named First Team All-State and District MVP. He was ranked as the 159 ^th overall player and the 54^th right-handed pitcher.

Where Did Chase Hampton Go To College?

Hampton committed to playing college baseball for Texas Tech University. By the end of his first season, Hampton led the team in innings pitched with 44.1 over seven games. He also had an impressive 3.86 ERA, allowing only 36 hits and striking out 34. In his sophomore season, Hampton put in another 56.2 innings of work over 11 starts. He also threw a single-game career-high 12 strikeouts in his last appearance at Texas Tech.

In the 2022 MLB draft, Hampton was selected as the 190^th overall pick in the sixth round by the New York Yankees.

Hampton debuted professionally with the Yankees’ High-A team, the Hudson Valley Renegades. He started in nine games and threw 47 innings with a 3.45 ERA. Hampton finished his time with Hudson Valley by allowing only 14 earned runs, 16 walks, 1.000 WHIP, 5.9 H9, 3.1 BB9, and 14.7 SO9. The Yankees’ front office noticed Hampton’s talent and promoted him to the AA Somerset Patriots midway through the season. He has struggled when facing a more talented league of hitters, but his development suggests his pitch control will address those struggles. Hampton started in 11 games and finished the season with a 2-2 record. He tossed 59.2 innings with the Patriots while carrying a 4.37 ERA, allowing 29 runs, striking out 68, and walking 21. Hampton carried a 1.257 WHIP, an 8.1 H9, a 3.2 BB9, and a 10.3 SO9.

Future

ITD ranks Chase Hampton as the Yankees’ number-six prospect. He will likely start the season with the Somerset Patriots but could be promoted to the AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders before the end of the season.
