Photo: Icon SMI Felix Hernandez pitched for the Seattle Mariners in 2011 and is under contract for the team through the 2014 season. His salary kicks up a notch this year going from a base of $10 million to $18.5 million. Felix played 2011 as a 25 year old, yet he seems older as he completed his seventh season in the majors. Although this is seen more in batters than pitchers, very young players who succeed in the majors are a good bet to have outstanding careers. Hernandez already won a Cy Young award, and if he pitched for a team with a better offense might well be on his way to 300 victories. His Cy Young award was significant, as he posted a 13-12 record that season. Along with Tim Lincecum’s low win total the same year, voters showed they could look at all the pitcher accomplished, rather than just the wins, in awarding the honor.
