On the season, Boone Logan owns a 3.86 ERA, yet his FIP is 5.13 and his xFIP is 5.05. His walk rate is 5.79 – a terrible number – his strikeout rate is 5.79 – a poor number – and his strand rate is a lucky 83.3% as his career mark in that regard has never been above 70%. ZiPS projects Logan to post a 5.40 ERA (4.74 FIP) going forward and that seems like a reasonable prediction given his history.
Now, in view of these numbers, I ask, why is Logan still on the team? It is mainly because of Joe Girardi’s undying devotion to having two left-handers at his disposal. However, both of the Yankees’ southpaws – Marte and Logan – are highly unreliable. In order to better the bullpen, one of them has to be jettisoned for Mark Melancon and it should be Boone Logan. Other than velocity, he has shown nothing, however, Girardi is to blame for waiting this long to act. Please, send this man to Scranton.
