The minor league pitcher who plunked Alex Rodriguez on his surgically-repaired hip says he didn’t mean it — but his dad and grandma made no apologies for their bloodline's drilling and hurled their own spitballs at the slugger’s character as well. Cody Scarpetta, a right-handed pitcher for the Brevard County, Fla., Manatees, said he lost control when he popped the Yankees star on his rehabbing left labrum. His 80-year-old grandmother, Marilyn Meyers, of Rockford, Ill., didn’t seem apologetic. “I think he thinks he’s kind of a hotshot. I don’t care for his personality,” Meyers said of A-Rod. “He just thinks he’s better than the other boys.” While Scarpetta’s father, Dan, said his 24-year-old son wouldn’t purposely throw at A-Rod, he didn’t back down about the Yankee third baseman's about the player’s history with performance-enhancing drugs. “I think where there’s smoke there’s fire,” said Dan Scarpetta, a former minor-league pitcher. “He’s admitted that he’s used in the past. So obviously we know he has in the past.” In a backhanded compliment, the senior Scarpetta said Rodriguez didn’t need steroids to be a great player. “He would have been a Hall of Fame player had he not been using, and I don’t think he needed to use any drugs to enhance his abilities,” the father said. “He was a great, great player before that.”

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is scheduled to meet with MLB officials on Friday to discuss his alleged role in the Biogenesis scandal.

A-Rod gets plunked in rehab game

People enjoy watching Alex Rodriguez get hit with stray fastballs. We'll not explore the reasons that might be, but it does seem to be a shared experience for many many Americans. You would think that experience would not be shared by those close to the pitcher, who in throwing a bean-ball has damaged either his statistical rating or his personal reputation. But there is one...

I don’t care for...

A-Rod booed in a magical land of Yankee love

I have never been to Viera, Florida. Frankly, until yesterday, I never heard of the place. I assume it's a town named after Meredith Viera, which is long overdue. (Is there a Philbin, Arkansas?)Yesterday, the leather-tanned Yankee fans of Veira took time out from cooking meth and licking eyeballs to heartily boo Alex Rodriguez's every move, like critics at a Pauly Shore...

MLB likely to suspend Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriguez, others

It was reported last year that Ryan Braun took PED's and was likely to be suspended. That never happened. But a report today from ESPN's Outside the Lines says that a suspension for Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriguez and other unknown players appears likely to happen during or a little bit after the all-star break. While we don't know the other players involved, it has been...

Have you ever made a mistake or a few?  Español: A-Rod en agosto de 2009. (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Well, I certainly have done many things that I regret and my guess is you have too. Now pretend that everyone, everywhere knew your mistakes and judged you on that merit only. Personally, I can’t even begin to imagine what that would be like. I am sure all of us have been on the...
