In just under three weeks, the first of the Angels will begin reporting to Spring Training.  Despite having spent more money than the gross domestic product of the nation of Tonga on new contracts this off-season (not an exaggeration, by the way), the Angels still might have a few items on their off-season shopping list to check off before they head to the Tempe Diablo Stadium complex.

Thanks to their spending spree, the Angels don't really have any true "needs" left, but they do have some "nice to haves" that they would love to address.  Alas, with so little time and money left to make moves, it is time to prioritize their remaining purchases.

Right-Handed Relief Pitching: Adding a high quality right-handed reliever to be a setup man and mento for Jordan Walden has been a big priority all off-season, but it has largely gone unaddressed.  But with the free agent and trade market for such players all but dried up, is it worth worrying about anymore?  They did add LaTroy Hawkins and still have Bobby Cassevah and Rich Thompson to help out.  And then there is the possibility that Michael Kohn, Kevin Jepsen or some other minor league arm could step up to have an impact.  So should Jerry Dipoto really bother adding anyone else at this point?  Ideal fit*: Luis Ayala

Left-Handed Relief Pitching: Yes, they have Scott Downs, but he is locked into setup duty right now.  Yes, they have Hisanori Takahashi, but he wasn't very effect against southpaw hitters last season.  As such, the Halos do still have something of a need for a left-hand specialist out of the pen.  Adding a LOOGY-type of pitcher wouldn't be a bad idea and probably wouldn't cost much money.  But, they could save a roster spot by standing pat and hoping Takahashi remembers how to get lefties out.  Ideal fit*: Mike Gonzalez

Fifth Outfielder: It seems like the Angels already have more outfielders than they know what to do with, but they really don't have a true reserve outfielder.  For now, Wells, Bourjos and Hunter are locked into the lineup with Bobby Abreu on the bench.  However, Abreu is such a terrible defender at this point, he barely counts as an outfielder anymore.  There is always Mike Trout, but he is much better off playing in the minors than he is riding the pine in the majors.  After that, the Halos are left with unproven youngsters Jeremy Moore and Alexi Amarista (who is more of an infielder).  It certainly wouldn't hurt the Halos to add a veteran reserve outfielder to the mix in case Moore and/or Amarista fail to impress in training camp.  Ideal fit*: Rick Ankiel

Fifth Starting Picher: The Angels are probably more than fine with Jerome Williams and Garrett Richards competing for this spot, but you can never have too much good starting pitching.  With talk of established veterans like Roy Oswalt and Edwin Jackson being available on possible one-year deals, it might behoove Arte Moreno to pry his wallet open one last time to really push this rotation to elite status.  Ideal fit*: Roy Oswalt, if only to make sure Texas doesn't get him

New Starting Catcher: Oh, right, we traded Mathis away and replaced him with Iannetta.  Sorry, about that.  Old habits die hard, I guess.

*Term "ideal fit" used very loosely as most of these players are deeply flawed and thus hardly ideal
