This afternoon, the New York Mets will look to take the rubber match against the Colorado Rockies in a series that has proven to be a battle of the braun . Over the course of the first 2 games of the series, 38 men have crossed the plate in a series of back-and-forth slugfests.

The rubber match will ultimately be a battle of 2 elite pitchers, although their status as elite comes under different circumstances. Starting for the Colorado Rockies is the 49-year old Jamie Moyer, who has arguably been the Rockies best starter this season. Moyer recently became the oldest pitcher to win a major league contest. Since his age 38 season with the Seattle Mariners, the veteran southpaw has amassed 136 wins. That's more wins than the 2-time Cy Young award winning Johan Santana has in his entire career. While Moyer has never won a Cy Young award, his longevity in itself has been one of the most incredible feats for a professional athlete in any sport. Finishing in the top-10 in Cy Young award voting 3 times, each after his age 35 season, Moyer will look to pick up his 269th career victory this afternoon.

His opponent is the New York Mets indisputable ace Johan Santana, who will be making his first start on normal rest this year. Santana has been dominant in all but one start this year and will be tested once again in one of the friendliest hitters environments in the major leagues. Santana has been lights out against the Rockies, holding a 2-0 record without allowing a run in 16 innings of work.

The way the series has gone, this one could easily turn out to be a slugfest that features 30 runs crossing the plate and several people being designated for assignment following the contest. However, it's also the kind of odd series that would see the Mets record their first ever no-hitter, or see Jamie Moyer become the oldest man to do so.

New York Mets Starting Lineup:
1. Kirk Nieuwenhuis CF
2. Ruben Tejada SS
3. Daniel Murphy 2B
4. David Wright 3B
5. Lucas Duda RF
6. Scott Hairston LF
7. Ike Davis 1B
8. Josh Thole C
9. Johan Santana P
