If there is one thing the Cardinals do not lack heading into the 2013 season, its starting pitching depth. Despite the loss of Kyle Lohse, who led the team in ERA (2.86), starts (33) and innings (211), while finishing second in wins, the Cards return 5 starters who made at least 16 starts in 2012.
In addition, former ace Chris Carpenter, who made a surprising return from thoracic outlet syndrome late last season, should be ready from the get go this season. And, as if that wasn't enough, the Cardinals have no less than 4 quality pitching prospects waiting in the wings.
So, how will the Cards handle this abundance of riches? Well, I will attempt to get into the minds of the Cardinals' brass to sort through that very issue for 2013 and beyond.
2013
Barring any surprising moves before opening day, the Cardinals rotation is pretty much set for 2013.
Adam Wainwright will be the ace of the staff, followed by Chris Carpenter, Jaime Garcia and Jake Westbrook. The only...

TCN Blog 2012 Cardinals top story #5: Lohse’s contract year
National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey received considerable extra attention in 2012 due to the fact he experienced his breakout season at age 37. Yet Dickey’s success, in his 10th year as a major leaguer, had much to do with his late-career adoption and mastery of the knuckleball.
Like Dickey, St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Kyle Lohse had a tremendous season on...

TCN Blog 2012 Cardinals top story #4: Molina, team MVP
In 2012, Yadier Molina fully emerged from the long shadow of Albert Pujols and became the clear Most Valuable Player of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Beyond Pujols’ departure, the 30-year-old had additional reason to feel heavy responsibility. Prior to the season, ownership granted him the fourth-largest contract in team history at five years, $75 million. That deal initially raised...
Kyle Lohse Propaganda
A thing that happens every offseason is that available players are valued. Front offices for teams decide how much a given player deserves. Fans of teams will do something similar, as well. Fans will evaluate players, but, often, they will tend more toward the extremes. They will identify players they badly want on their teams, and they will identify players they want no part of...
Six things you might not know about Lance Berkman
There have been a lot of mixed feelings out in the blogging world on what the Texas Rangers have done by signing Lance Berkman. There is a palpable risk for the Rangers since Berkman only played 32 games in 2012 due to continued problems with his knees. But what if Berkman could play a hundred games in 2013? If that could happen or more, then Lance Berkman will be worth every penny...
St. Louis Cardinals might be smart to re-sign Kyle Lohse
The St. Louis Cardinals have a solid starting rotation that includes two ace-caliber pitchers, a couple of decent No. 3 and No. 4 starters, and a bevy of young flamethrowers. However, they might be in better shape if they re-sign their best starter from last year – Kyle Lohse.

Lohse posted a 16-3 record with a team-leading 2.84 earned-run average and was a strong...
