To help celebrate Major League Baseball’s opening day, it is time for another edition of Promising Prospects. All three of these guys are high upside prospects who are at least a year or two away from the majors. As we all know, the prospect game is extremely hit or miss, and guys like this are good examples of that. Even though all three have very good talent, I would be shocked if all of them end up being MLB regulars. Anyways, it is time for my profiles on Miguel Sano, Carlos Martinez, and Brandon Nimmo. Miguel Sano 3B, MIN Age: 19Bats: RThrows: R6’3, 195Highest Level: AMLB ETA: 2015-2016 Miguel Sano is the top rated prospect in the Minnesota Twins system, and is considered top 10 in all of baseball by most. He came up as a shortstop, but it now appears that his future is at third base. Sano has elite power, slugging 28 HRs and 28 doubles last season in A ball. His bat will be what carries him through the minors into the big leagues, but the rest of his game does need some work. ...

Mets Opening Day Was Sold Out As Fans Flocked To Citi Field

The attendance for Opening Day at Citi Field was 41,053 and it was a complete sellout. The team later announced that another 1,000 tickets on top of that were given away to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. You could see plenty of empty seats once the pre-game ceremonies got underway, but by the end of the second inning the place was packed and the throngs of fans were vocal and...

Mets Minors: A Closer Look At Park Factors

Historic Grayson Stadium – Home of the Savannah Sand Gnats Ashley Marshall of MiLB.com, posted a terrific analysis on how varied park factors can be throughout minor league ballparks. I appreciate the incredible amount of time and research Marshall put into it as it includes a five-year window for each park factor to minimize all the anomalies. That couldn’t have been easy....

Embrace the Ace & Cowgill Caution

One of the positives of being a Mets fan is the fact that we follow a club that tends to do well on opening day.  After dropping their first six opening day games, the Mets have a franchise record of 34-18.  That’s pretty damn impressive when you consider some of the long stretches of futility this franchise has experienced.  When you stop and think about it, this is probably...

Post Game: Niese Sparkles; Offense Rocks In Mets’ Opening Day Rout

How appropriate. It was overcast for much of the day, but shortly after this afternoon’s 11-2 rout of the San Diego Padres, it started to rain on Citi Field. If there could be universal laws in baseball, is it isn’t supposed to rain on Opening Day and the home team has to win. Let the Padres win Wednesday night and when they return to San Diego, but today belonged to the Mets...

Late last week the New York Mets announced that former New York and Boston skipper Bobby Valentine would be doing some pre- and postgame analysis for cable channel SNY this season. However, that isn’t stopping Valentine from talking about his former market. In an interview with the New York Post, Valentine appears to be following Carl Crawford‘s lead of blaming his struggles...

I Need More Cowgill

Leadoff man Collin Cowgill went 2-5 with a double & a grand slam and veteran Marlon Byrd went 2-5 with 2 singles, driving in a run on both.Aside from Cowgill and Byrd, four other Mets had a multi hit game against the Padres - Daniel Murphy, John Buck, Ruben Tejada and pitcher...
