Cole walked five batters in four innings, including walking the bases loaded with two outs in the fourth inning. He got out of the inning thanks to a diving catch by Jerry Sands. Cole threw 85 pitches on the day, with 49 going for strikes. Vic Black had a strong outing in relief, going two shutout innings with three strikeouts. Black threw 24 pitches, with 13 strikes. Jordy Mercer continued his strong start to the season with two hits. He now has a .323/.411/.435 line, with a 10:10 K/BB ratio in 62 at-bats.   AA: ALTOONA CURVE  Box Score Result: Altoona 4, Harrisburg 1 Starting Pitcher: Casey Sadler, RHP (3-0, 2.16) – 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 HR Top Hitter: Matt Curry, 1B (.254) – 1-for-4, HR Other Notable Performers: Andy Vasquez, 3B (.300) – 2-for-4 Andrew Lambo, LF (.338) – 1-for-4 Jose Contreras, RHP (0.00) – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 0 HR Game Notes: Casey Sadler doesn’t seem to be having any trouble with the jump to Double-A. In four starts he has a 2.16 ERA in 25 innings, with a 14:5 K/BB ratio. He’s also maintained his extreme ground ball ratio, with a 2.35 GO/AO rate this season. Jose Contreras threw an inning in relief yesterday, and threw another inning today. It’s a good sign that he’s throwing on back to back days, which is usually one of the final steps for a reliever’s progression. Matt Curry hit his second homer in as many games, and now has three on the year. A: WEST VIRGINIA POWER Box Score Result: West Virginia 11, Hagerstown 2 Starting Pitcher: Orlando Castro, LHP (2-1, 1.77) – 5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR Top Hitter: Josh Bell, RF (.288) – 4-for-5, HR, 4 RBI, SB Other Notable Performers Barrett Barnes, CF (.118) – 1-for-4, 2B, BB, 2 RBI Walker Gourley, 1B (.359) – 4-for-4, 2B, BB, 2 SB Ryan Hafner, RHP (5.40) – 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0 HR Game Notes: Josh Bell had a huge day at the plate, getting four hits including his second homer of the year. Bell now has a .288/.325/.493 line in 73 at-bats for West Virginia. He’s also cut down on the strikeouts in the last four games, with two in his last 18 at-bats. Walker Gourley also had a four hit game, and now has a .359 average on the season. Stetson Allie went 1-for-4 with a walk, but also struck out three times, struggling with breaking pitches. Orlando Castro has given up four earned runs in 20.1 innings this year, with an 18:1 K/BB ratio.
