Box Score

Result: Richmond 10, Altoona 2

Starting Pitcher: Tim Alderson, RHP (4-4, 4.40) – 2.2 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 0 HR

Top Hitter: Jeremy Farrell, 1B (.222) – 1-for-4, HR

Robbie Grossman, CF (.256) – 2-for-4

Victor Black, RHP (1.38) – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 0 HR

Game Notes: On June 25th, Alderson gave up seven earned runs in 5.2 innings. He followed that with three starts where he combined for three earned runs in 16.2 innings, along with a 16:8 K/BB ratio. He was back to getting hit hard again tonight. For the most part, Alderson has been good this year, but he’s had a few disastrous starts such as this one, so obviously there are some consistency issues. Robbie Grossman continues his impressive hitting. He now has a .322/.447/.496 line in 121 at-bats since his suspension in June.

Box Score

Result: Clearwater 2, Bradenton 0

Justin Howard had one of those hits, extending his hitting streak to seven games. Howard now has a .309/.407/.410 line in 178 at-bats this year. Heading in to tonight’s game he had a .409/.481/.477 line in 44 at-bats in July.

Game One Box Score

Result: Augusta 2, West Virginia 0

Starting Pitcher: Zack Von Rosenberg, RHP (4.46) – 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2 HR

Top Hitter: Ashley Ponce, SS (.232) – 2-for-3

Other Notable Performers

Alen Hanson, DH (.329) – 1-for-3, BB, SB

Game Notes: Alen Hanson stole his 23rd base of the year. Zack Von Rosenberg has given up five earned runs in 20 innings over his last four starts. The downside to today’s game was that both of his runs came off the long ball. That’s been an issue for Von Rosenberg. He didn’t allow a homer in his last three starts, spanning 14 innings, but gave up three in one game back on June 24th.

Game Two Box Score

Result: West Virginia 2, Augusta 0

Starting Pitcher: Nick Kingham, RHP (2-7, 5.63) – 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 0 HR

Top Hitter: Jose Osuna, 1B (.269) – 1-for-3, HR

Other Notable Performers

Gregory Polanco, DH (.318) – 2-for-3

Game Notes: Jose Osuna hit his tenth homer of the year, and his fourth in his last ten games.  Coming in to game two, Osuna had a .296/.321/.537 line in 54 at-bats this month, with four homers. Prior to this start, Kingham had given up 19 earned runs in 20 innings in his previous four starts.

Game Notes: Barrett Barnes hit his fourth homer of the year. Three of those homers have come in his last nine games. In his last ten games he has a .290/.450/.645 line in 31 at-bats. On the season he’s hitting for a .282/.398/.459 line in 85 at-bats. Joely Rodriguez now has a 2.17 ERA in 29 innings, with a 12:8 K/BB ratio. D.J.
