AA: ALTOONA CURVE

Box Score

Result: Richmond 10, Altoona 2

Starting Pitcher: Tim Alderson, RHP (4-4, 4.40) – 2.2 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 0 HR

He was back to getting hit hard again tonight. For the most part, Alderson has been good this year, but he’s had a few disastrous starts such as this one, so obviously there are some consistency issues. Robbie Grossman continues his impressive hitting. He now has a .322/.447/.496 line in 121 at-bats since his suspension in June.

A+: BRADENTON MARAUDERS

Box Score

Result: Clearwater 2, Bradenton 0

A: WEST VIRGINIA POWER

Game One Box Score

Result: Augusta 2, West Virginia 0

Starting Pitcher: Zack Von Rosenberg, RHP (4.46) – 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2 HR

Game Notes: Alen Hanson stole his 23rd base of the year. Zack Von Rosenberg has given up five earned runs in 20 innings over his last four starts. The downside to today’s game was that both of his runs came off the long ball. That’s been an issue for Von Rosenberg. He didn’t allow a homer in his last three starts, spanning 14 innings, but gave up three in one game back on June 24th.

Game Two Box Score

Result: West Virginia 2, Augusta 0

Drew Sutton – Image Credit: Pittsburgh Pirates Since joining Pittsburgh, Drew Sutton has added a spark at the top of the Pirates lineup. The 28-year-old has had some memorable moments so far, too. Pirates Notebook: Who Says the Bucs Don’t Have Power?

Alvarez blasted No. 18 on the season in Colorado on Wednesday. Entering game action on Wednesday, Andrew McCutchen (.531 avg, 1.594 OPS) and Neil Walker (.490 avg, 1.357 OPS) were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the Majors in the month of July in average and OPS. But despite those two combining to go 0-for-8 on the day, Pittsburgh was still able to pull together a huge win in Colorado...

Tuesday 7/17 Minor League Roundup

AAA Indianapolis | Indianapolis 5 Gwinnett 8 Despite a good enough start for southpaw Jeff Locke to pick up a potential victory, three runs on five hits and one walk, the Indians could not pull the bunny out of the hat. Thanks in large part to a clutch game-tying double in the fifth by backstop Eric Fryer, they were able to vanquish Locke for a no-decision. But an outburst four...

Game 91: Pirates 9 Rockies 6

Two weeks ago, during the game that we'll all remember as the Drew Sutton game, Andrew McCutchen and Garrett Jones had a little moment in the dugout after the Jones home run that gave the Pirates their first lead of the game. Jones's homer came on a ridiculous golf swing and after he and McCutchen rounded the bases, 'Cutch mocked the swing in the dugout with a huge grin...

Bombs bail out J-Mac

The Pirates had some more problems on the mound on Wednesday afternoon, but were able to overcome them with a ton of offense. Four long balls helped the Bucs earn their second straight win in Colorado, giving them the series victory. James McDonald was awful to open the game. He had no control whatsoever, and served up two very long home runs to the first three batters. It was 3...

Game 90: Pirates 6 Rockies 2

With the Pirates in need of a strong start to help them break out of a post-All Star break mini-funk, Erik Bedard gave them 6 2/3 innings in thin air of Colorado tonight, which turned out to be plenty good for an offense that finally showed some real life after a strange set of post-ASB games. I'm not sure I'd say Bedard is "back" based on his work tonight (four...

The Pirates reportedly had a scout in Chicago this week to watch Upton, and ESPN’s Jayson Stark called the Pirates a “serious contender” for the young outfielder. Jon Heyman of CBS, however, reported that there “is nothing serious” between...
