Vin Mazzaro threw four shutout innings and Mike Zagurski and Bryan Morris each added a scoreless frame to keep Columbus off the board for the last six innings. Besides allowing four hits and two walks, McPherson also hit two  batters and threw a wild pitch. He threw 56 pitches, 31 for strikes. Indy got RBI’s from Alex Presley, Jordy Mercer, Darren Ford and Ivan De Jesus Jr., as they scored two in the fifth, two in the sixth and added another in the eighth inning. Brandon Inge went 0-for-3 in his rehab assignment, leaving him 0-for-8 so far.   AA: ALTOONA CURVE  Taillon threw five shutout innings this afternoon Box Score Result: Altoona 6, Erie 3 Starting Pitcher: Jameson Taillon, RHP (1-0, 0.00) – 5.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 0 HR Top Hitter: Andrew Lambo, LF (.417) – 3-for-4, 2B, HR, RBI Other Notable Performers Alex Dickerson, RF (.308) – 1-for4, 2B, BB Jarek Cunningham, 2B (.308) – 0-for-3, Sac, HBP Matt Curry, 1B (.357) – 1-for-4, RBI Adalberto Santos, 3B (.455) – 3-for-5, RBI, SB   Game Notes: Jameson Taillon made his season debut today and pitched brilliantly, allowing just four singles and a walk in five innings. He threw 75 pitches, 43 for strikes, and had a 5/4 GO/AO ratio to go along with his four strikeouts. The only downside to his start was the fact he allowed five stolen bases in five attempts, though he was still able to keep Erie off the board. Andrew Lambo added three hits, including his first home run of the season, as Altoona scored runs in five different innings with the help of 11 hits and three walks. The opposing pitcher today was Derek Hankins, a long time member of the Pirates minor league system, who spent parts of four seasons playing in Altoona.   A+: BRADENTON MARAUDERS Box Score Result: Fort Myers 10, Bradenton 6 Starting Pitcher: Matt Benedict, RHP (0-1, 9.00) – 4.0 IP, 8 H, 9 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 1 HR Top Hitter: Taylor Lewis, LF (.333) – 2-for-4, SB, 2B, 2 RBI Other Notable Performers Willy Garcia, RF (.273) – 0-for-4, 2 K Alen Hanson, SS (.154) – 2-for-5, 3B, SB, RBI, 2 Runs Gregory Polanco, CF (.273) – 0-for-3, HBP, Run, SB Jose Osuna, 1B (.167) – 1-for-4, 2B, RBI Game Notes: Matt Benedict got hit hard early and Bradenton played sloppy defense in the field, which put them down 7-0 through two innings. Alen Hanson picked up his first two hits of the season, but he also made his first two errors. On the down side, Dan Gamache is still hitless and he committed two errors, giving him three already. Zack Von Rosenberg pitched to six batters in the fifth inning, allowing one run on two hits and two walks. He gave up a homer, but also recorded two strikeouts. On the good side, Elias Diaz and Chris Lashmet had two hits apiece, with Diaz hitting two doubles. Jhonathan Ramos threw 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.   A: WEST VIRGINIA POWER Box Score Result: Asheville 4, West Virginia 1 Starting Pitcher: Orlando Castro, LHP (0-1, 2.84) – 6.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 0 HR Top Hitter:  Stetson Allie, 1B (.167) – 2-for-4, 2B, RBI Other Notable Performers Josh Bell, DH (.083) – 0-for-4 Wyatt Mathisen, C (.167) – 1-for-4 Dilson Herrera, 2B (.222) 2-for-3 Max Moroff, SS (.273) 0-for-3, Run, BB Game Notes: The Power remain winless through three games, just like Bradenton. Castro pitched well through six innings, but ran into trouble in the seventh. He left with two runners on and a 1-1 score. Kyle Haynes allowed both inherited runners to score. The offense has struggled, but two good signs may have come from today’s game, both Dilson Herrera and Stetson Allie picked up their first hits. Herrera did have three walks in the first two games, so he has been on base five times already. Allie made an error on a catch and another on a throw. Josh Bell is 1-for-12 so far.
