Lost in all the commotion about Yasiel Puig are the trickiest predicaments when it comes to the All-Star game. Look at that logjam at third base in the American League! The National League is overloaded with pitchers. And who in the name of old Jack Murphy Stadium is going to represent the San Diego Padres? So while the polarizing debate over whether Puig should be selected Saturday is certainly a juicy one, when all is said and done he'll either have a backup role in the NL outfield or he won't. The most difficult decisions involve other positions. Buster Posey or Yadier Molina behind the plate for the NL? Robinson Cano or Dustin Pedroia at second base in the AL? At the hot corner, Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera is having another monster season. OK, he's the starter for the junior circuit. But then there's an overabundance of deserving backups: Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria, Oakland's Josh Donaldson, Texas' Adrian Beltre and Baltimore's Manny ...

Puig pulled from game vs. Rockies

Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig finally found an opponent he couldn't conquer: the outfield wall at Coors Field. Puig made a leaping catch in the fifth inning against the Rockies, colliding with the wall and falling awkwardly to the ground. He stayed in the game for that inning and had an at-bat -- a sacrifice fly -- in the top of the sixth. However, when the Dodgers...

Puig scores from second base on a infield error

credit David Zalubowski The legend of Puig continues.  Whether you decide Yasiel Puig is an all-star or not, he is still must see tv.  It seems each and every time he steps on the field we walk away amazed at a significant highlight that must be talked about.  As usual, he didn’t disappoint us.  Tonight’s super sensation was all about hustle.  That’s right, Yasiel...

Yasiel Puig Only Knows One Speed

Yasiel Puig’s hustle plays keep paying off, even though he may not be the best defensive player in the MLB (by a long shot). Check out the great catch Puig made off of a Nolan Arenado line drive which caused Puig to slam directly into the outfield wall, somehow holding on to the ball. Slow down big fella. Puig among final 5 All-Star

All-Star Game rosters were announced on Saturday, but baseball fans will have to wait and see if Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig will be invited to the party.

LA's Puig leaves game because of hip

Rookie Yasiel Puig has left the Los Angeles Dodgers' game against Colorado after four innings. He started in right field and was hitless in two at-bats on Friday night. Puig's left hip has bothered him since he ran into the wall making a catch at Colorado on July 3. Before the game, manager Don Mattingly had said Puig was experiencing soreness, but he started anyway. He...

Mike Scioscia: Yasiel Puig is not an All-Star

Source: Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images Angels manager Mike Scioscia is the latest to say that Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig is not yet deserving of an All-Star selection. While acknowledging the talent of the 22-year-old the former big league cat catcher stated that he believed Puig’s stint in the majors was not long enough to deserve selection to the mid-summer classic. “I think...

American Baseball Parallels: Mannywood Heads For Texas. Yasiel Puig Celebrates First Independence Day.

Remember when the Dodgers acquired Manny Ramirez in 2008? The man who’s considered by some to be the best right-handed hitter to ever play the game, who propelled the Dodgers to the 2008 NL West Championship and helped take the team to back-to-back NLCSes in 2008 and 2009, the man who found himself caught up in steroid and performance enhancing drug controversies throughout his...

Puig saved Dodgers, Mattingly's job

On May 19, I wrote that the Los Angeles Dodgers would fire Don Mattingly. I said I was "convinced" it would happen, and that "my guess" was that Mattingly "gets this (next) series, and if things don't get better, that's it." Well, I was wrong. I am happy I was wrong. And in hindsight, what I should have written that day, in no uncertain terms...

Mike Scioscia Thinks Yasiel Puig Doesn’t Deserve To Be Voted Into All-Star Games

Old school baseball is a joke. When Phillies closer Jonathan Paplebon came out to say that Yasiel Puig being voted into the All Star game would be a joke, one was just waiting for the slew of other Puig ‘naysayers’ to come out the woodwork to throw shade his way. No surprise that today it came from the ‘other’ LA team, from Mike Scioscia manager of the struggling Anaheim...

Bruce Bochy changing mind about Yasiel Puig?

Last week, Bruce Bochy was quoting in saying that he didn't believe emerging Los Angeles Dodgers rookie superstar Yasiel Puig deserved a place on the National League All-Star team. This was potentially detrimental to Puig's All-Star hopes considering the fact that Bochy will manage the National League squad later this month in the All-Star Game."Generally, guys that...

Want Yasiel Puig In The All-Star Game? It Could Cost You Domonic Brown

Jonathan Papelbon made headlines last week when he was asked whether Dodgers rookie outfielder Yasiel Puig should make the All-Star team, despite only having just over a month on the major league roster. Papelbon made no bones about it: he did not consider Puig an All-Star. And he said it...

Puig Shut Down in Giants Win Over Dodgers

Starting pitcher, Madison Bumgarner (9-5, 3.05 ERA) has proven to be the best and most consistent pitcher so far this season for the San Francisco Giants (40-46). Today’s game against division rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers (41-44), proved it once again, even with a few hiccups along the way. A new system for the Giants’ reeked havoc on the first inning of the game as all the...

Yasiel Puig not selected to All-Star Game, could still make it

He hasn’t been in the league long, but Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Yasiel Puig could still make it on to the National League roster for the All-Star Game on July 16. When the rosters were announced, Puig’s name was not included among the starters or reserves meaning that the fans,

Happy Hour – Happy Birthday America!

One of my favorite holidays is the 4th of July. Coming from a family of Marines, I have always been patriotic, and no single day makes you feel more proud to be American, than the 4th.  For most it means a day off of work, going to the pool, cooking out, watching or setting off fireworks, and drinking some beers. This 4th of July will be pretty unique for me as I will be in San...

Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The All-Star Game

Okay, maybe not love. Honestly, I couldn’t care less about the All-Star Game. Or, that’s what I would tell you in conversation. Can I tell you a secret? I still watch it. Usually. It’s meaningless, it’s absurd, but it’s still baseball. And even though I don’t care much for it, I still care about my guys getting in. As a kid, I  never truly appreciated just how special...
