First baseman Albert Pujols spent some time with Tony La Russa during the Los Angeles Angels' series in Oakland this week. However, he wasn't getting hitting advice from the only manager he had known before this season.

"No -- Tony's somebody that I love and respect like a father," Pujols said. "Only God knows my swing better than myself."

Pujols might have been looking to a higher power for an explanation through the first two months of the season -- the worst stretch of his career. However, Pujols said he has not spent these weeks searching for some change in his swing or stance to turn things around.

"You can't worry about mechanics and stuff like that," Pujols said. "You just go out there and hit. As long as you take your swings and prepare yourself for each game, the last thing you want to be thinking about up there is mechanics.

"Hitting is hard, but you have to keep it simple. As much as you know it's hard, you have to really keep it simple and go out there and put good swings together. Sometimes you're going to feel good, and sometimes you won't -- most of the time you won't. The times when you don't feel good is when you have to survive until you can get that good streak going."

The Angels have been hoping to get one of those good streaks from Pujols. His current stretch is as close as he's come. He was 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the A's. Pujols has hits in 10 of his past 11 games, and he has three home runs and 15 RBI over his past 16 games after driving in just two runs in the 18 games before that.
