The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon, improving to six games over .500 for the first time since July 18, 2010 (49-43) in the process.

“Starting pitching: That’s what it is, that’s what the game is about,” Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters following the game. “The game’s about having a guy on the bump going out and giving you quality innings and keeping you in games and we did that.”

NY held the Padres scoreless for the last 26  innings of the series; 22 1/3 of which came from starters Dillon Gee, Johan Santana, and R.A. Dickey.

#RADICULOUS: R.A. Dickey started for the Mets, tossing 7 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out ten batters; his second straight double-digit strikeout game.  Dickey became the first Mets pitcher to record double-digits strikeouts in consecutive games since Pedro Martinez in 2006. The knuckle baller has struck out 29 batters over his last three starts, the highest three-start total of his career.

Dickey’s knuckler was dancing something vicious on Sunday afternoon, as the right hander retired 19 of the first 21 batters he faced, including a stretch of 15 Padres in-a-row.

A knuckleball is a funny thing. It’s very enigmatic. Today was a day where I was able to change speeds with it a lot. I was able to elevate some. I’m starting to get a little more of a feel for how to do things with it, and that’s exciting.”

#imwith28:  With two-outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the first, Daniel Murphy singled to center plating David Wright with the games first run.

Murphy has now collected 54 hits in 181 at-bats, good for a .298 average:

BIRD IS THE WORD: Tim Byrdak relieved Dickey with one-out and runners on first and second in the top of the eighth. He retired both batters he faced ending the inning and the San Diego rally in the process.  The scoreless inning marked the left handers 14 straight appearance without allowing a run — a span of 14 games — lowering his ERA to 2.57:

CLOSING THE DOOR: Frank Francisco picked up his 13th save of the season, tossing a perfect ninth inning. After blowing back-to-back saves versus the Marlins on May 11 & 13th, Francisco has recorded five saves in five opportunities. Francisco has retired the last 12 batters he has faced while lowering his ERA to 6.41 over that span . He 13 saves ranks him second in the NL and 5th in MLB:

LET’S GO METS: The Mets will start a three-game set versus the Division rivals Philadelphia Phillies tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 pm at Citi Field sending Jon Niese (7-1, 2.17) to the hill tol oppose Cole Hamels (7-1, 2.17)..
