MINNEAPOLIS -- Mother Nature defeated the Minnesota Twins for the second time this season as rain and wind forced the Twins to postpone Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers at Target Field. The date of the makeup game will be announced at a later date. The Twins and Tigers were scheduled to play their third and final game of the series at 1:10 p.m. CT. Kyle Gibson was set to take the mound for Minnesota, while Detroit ace Justin Verlander was due to pitch for the Tigers. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Gibson will now start Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the rest of the rotation will remain intact. "It sounds like there was maybe going to be a little bit of an opening, but it's not very much of one, and it's pretty much going to be ugly all day," Gardenhire said of the weather. "It would be really ugly out, and tomorrow's not an option either." It marks the first postponement this season at Target Field. Minnesota's game on...

Minnesota Twins: Solving the Kevin Correia problem

Kevin Correia The Minnesota Twins have had no problems whatsoever producing runs this year. There has only been one game this year where the team has been shut out. However, the main area of concern is still in their pitching, and probably one of the weakest links so far is starting pitcher Kevin Correia. In 5 game appearances so far this season, Correia is 0-3 and has the worst...

Minnesota Twins: Mauer hot contender for All-Star Break

Joe Mauer In less than three months, the Minnesota Twins will be hosting the All-Star Break at Target Field. The ballots were officially released on Friday, and for the first time in his career, Joe Mauer is listed as a potential player for first base. However, Mauer is facing tough competition this year for the All-Star spot, with other contenders being Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit...

Twins' Pinto showing off power, patience at plate

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins have hit 11 home runs in 11 games at Target Field this year. The two longest blasts came off the bat of young Josmil Pinto. None went further than the majestic drive Pinto launched into the second deck on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers that helped cap a 5-3 victory for Minnesota. It was the type of no-doubter -- estimated at 417 feet -- that...

Twins' Trevor Plouffe leaves game with injury

The Minnesota Twins enjoyed a 5-3 victory over division rival Detroit on Saturday afternoon.  The Twins' third baseman, Trevor Plouffe, enjoyed another successful day at the plate as he laced the go-ahead two-run single that wound up as the winning hit.  He was lifted from the game during the seventh inning though with an arm injury.  Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports:"...

Tigers' fifth-inning meltdown fuels Twins win

MINNEAPOLIS -- A sense of deja vu crept in Saturday as the Minnesota Twins mounted a rally without doing much with the bats. Detroit's bullpen struggled to find the strike zone, much like Toronto's relievers did eight days earlier at Target Field. So the Twins took advantage of the Tigers' erratic pitching by drawing five walks and picking up just one hit in a four-run...

Twins Chris Colabello seriously leading the league in RBIs

This Chris Colabello story keeps getting better and better. Chris Colabello of the Minnesota Twins is seriously leading the American League in runs batted in. And it’s almost May. Then again, hey, Dayan Viciedo of the Chicago White Sox is leading the AL in batting average, so anything is possible now. This is an excerpt from Bob Wirz on Independent Baseball, on his blog IndyBaseballChatter...

Harmon Killebrew to be Featured on a Postage Stamp?

Nearly three years after his death, Harmon Killebrew is still being remembered. “No individual has ever meant more to the Minnesota Twins organization and millions of fans across Twins Territory than Harmon Killebrew,” Twins team president Dave St. Peter said following Killebrew’s death in May 2011.  ”Harmon will long be remembered as one of the most prolific home run hitters...

Hughes looks solid as Twins top Tigers

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Phil Hughes threw seven strong innings and Josmil Pinto hit his fifth homer of the season and the Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 5-3 on Saturday. Hughes (2-1) had six strikeouts with no walks. He retired 16 straight at one point and has won two straight -- a welcome sight for a Twins rotation that had produced only six quality starts this season. Detroit...

Hughes strong, batters patient as Twins top Tigers

Perhaps the most amazing part about this remarkably efficient new Twins offense — the take-and-trot — is how excited it has gotten people about inactivity. As each errant pitch went by Saturday, the Target Field crowd grew louder, saving its biggest roar for those climactic moments when successful Twins hitters calmly handed their bats to the batboy. The atmosphere in the dugout...

2014 Fantasy Baseball: Dumpster Diving — Chris Colabello vs. Justin Morneau

Source: Scott Halleran/Getty Images North America Last week we started the dumpster diving series with catchers. When we look at first basemen we already see some guys that have been added since the beginning of the season. One of the more fun things about twitter is that it allows readers to interact with us directly in real time. The problem is that we have only 140 characters...
