Ramirez homered into the first row of the right-field seats off Alexander Fernandez, the son of former Marlins pitcher Alex Fernandez. The spring training game was the first of four in the ballpark for the Marlins. Four-time All-Star Mark Buehrle, making his first start for the Marlins, gave up three runs in three innings. He retired the first seven batters but allowed hits to the next four. Marlins president David Samson reportedly says Miami people are stupid, cares more about money than fans

I don’t know anything about Miami Marlins president David Samson, but if the reported comments he recently made are accurate, he’s a pretty awful guy. Speaking at a Beacon Council breakfast meeting about the new Marlins ballpark Tuesday, Samson called Miami people stupid, while showing how business-oriented he is. According to Miami Today News, Samson prefaced his remarks by...

Marlins Park Opens With a Win

In the first game ever played in Marlins Park by the Miami Marlins, the residents came away 7-6 winners in walk-off fashion against the University of Miami Hurricanes.    Trailing by one entering the bottom of the ninth, it appeared the Marlins would drop the special event until journeyman Terry Tiffee came up with the game winning knock.    The win does not count in the Grapefruit...

After a smooth start, Johnson gave up a single, a double and a walk and departed with the bases loaded. He threw 41...

The Turncoat Edition

It's nice to have some things to write about when the spring training game that is being played isn't on television. Luckily, a few people obliged for me. Notably, Marlins President David Samson, who has showed us why Jose Reyes made a bad (albeit very rich, and probably his only) decision: In making the move to Little Havana, Mr. Samson said, the team had some tough contract...
