White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez was a late scratch from Chicago's starting lineup on Sunday after he arrived late to U.S. Cellular Field. Ramirez was listed as the No. 2 hitter in the original lineup posted in the clubhouse for the game against the Kansas City Royals, but was replaced by utility player Ray Olmedo. Chicago entered the game with a two-game lead over Detroit in the AL Central. Ramirez is hitting .273 with nine homers and leads AL shortstops with 66 RBIs. The White Sox were also without Adam Dunn and Kevin Youkilis for a third straight game. Dunn is day to day with a strained right oblique, while Youkilis is expected back on Monday after returning home for the birth of his son.

Pierzynski calls rumors 'completely baseless'

The last thing the White Sox needed in the middle of a heated pennant race with Detroit were distractions thrown their way. But there it was on Friday, front and center, so much so that catcher A.J. Pierzynski addressed the media before the eventual 7-5 loss to Kansas City, over an internet rumor that said the veteran was under suspicion for steroid use by Major League Baseball...

Ozzie: Strasburg nobody's business

White Sox's Sale gets 16th win

The White Sox reversed a couple of bad trends and held off Kansas City to break an unlikely skid to the Royals. Dayan Viciedo, Tyler Flowers and Paul Konerko each homered to back Chris Sale's six solid innings and lead Chicago to a 5-4 win over the Royals on Saturday. Sale (16-6) scattered five hits and struck out six over six innings, winning his eighth straight decision at...

White Sox's Floyd set for Wednesday return to rotation

The good news came in twos for the Chicago White Sox on Monday. First, and most important, they beat the Detroit Tigers 6-1 in the opening game of a huge four-game series, giving Chicago a three-game lead in the AL Central race. Second, they have help coming to a rotation that had been struggling as of late. Gavin Floyd, out since Aug. 27 with an injured right elbow, is healthy...

Adam Dunn Out with Oblique Injury

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn is likely to miss the next few days due to an oblique injury, as many as five more contests according to Toni Ginnetti of the Chicago Sun-Times: ‘‘He still has a strain, and it will be [at least] a couple days,’’ manager Robin Ventura said. ‘‘It’s when he [feels he’s] ready to go.’’ Dunn,...

White Sox 6, Tigers 1

Jose Quintana pitched effectively into the eighth inning, Alex Rios and A.J. Pierzynski hit back-to-back homers in the sixth and the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 6-1 Monday night to increase their AL Central lead to three games. The White Sox had lost seven straight to Detroit, managed just two hits against Rick Porcello (9-12) and were 0 for 10 with runners in scoring...

Royals-White Sox Preview

(AP) -- Chris Sale was the surprising ace of the Chicago White Sox rotation in the first half, but he's labored over the last two months. Sale will try to avoid a third straight losing start Saturday and help the White Sox end a frustrating six-game skid against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Central-leading Chicago holds a one-game lead over Detroit and Sale (15-6, 2.93...

Ozzie Guillen Makes Dig at Yankees Collapse While Ranting About Stephen Strasburg Situation

Ozzie Guillen has been known to throw a tirade or two, usually for very good reason. But him getting all bent out of shape because people want to see Stephen Strasburg keep pitching? Well, that seems a little misguided. Guillen was at his profanity-laced best Friday when asked about the Nationals' plan to not have Strasburg pitch beyond Sept. 12 in an effort to keep Strasburg...

White Sox Fans Need to Show Up or Shut Up for Tigers Series

Let’s be honest White Sox fans, despite our place in the standings, the Detroit Tigers have owned the Chicago White Sox this year in every sense of the word.  The Tigers have swept the Sox in back-to-back series, crushed us in home attendance and since the beginning of the season have received all of the attention, praise and post season backing from media outside of Chicago...

Moustakas' RBI single lifts Royals over White Sox

CHICAGO (AP) -- Mike Moustakas stroked a go-ahead single in the 10th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. The rally started after Alcides Escobar was thrown out, leaving the bases empty and two...

The teams begin a critical four-game set at U.S. Cellular Field on Monday night as the White Sox try to snap a seven-game skid versus the Tigers and create some breathing room atop the division. Detroit has swept consecutive three-game home series against Chicago...
