Ian Kinsler hit a leadoff triple in the 10th inning and scored on Michael Young's single to lift the Texas Rangers over the Kansas City Royals 5-4 on Thursday night. Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre hit back-to-back homers in the fourth to help the AL West leaders overcome a 3-0 deficit. The Rangers (82-55) moved a season-high 27 games above .500 and own the best record in franchise history after 137 games. They won their sixth straight series and upped their division lead to 5 1/2 games over idle Oakland. Mike Adams (4-3) allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth. Joe Nathan earned his 30th save in 31 tries, converting his 28th consecutive opportunity since a blown save on April 11. It was the right-hander's 39th career save against Kansas City. Greg Holland (6-4) took the loss. Royals starter Luke Hochevar took a 3-0 lead into the fourth and retired his first 10 batters before Young's single. Four pitches later the score was tied after Hamilton and Beltre hit consecutiv...

Texas' Young shows signs of improvement

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington has been adamant that he won't be sitting Michael Young in favor of any young players while the veteran tries to find his swing. "Before the season is over, he's going to do something grand," was Washington's line. For Young, though, "grand" means consistency. It's only a week, but the Rangers are starting...

Q&A: Roy Oswalt, Evolution of a Career

Much like the old gray mare, Roy Oswalt isn’t what he used to be. That doesn’t mean the 35-year-old right-hander is ready to be put out to pasture. He can still be an effective pitcher, he simply can’t be ridden as hard as he was from 2001-2010. During that period, Oswalt was a 200-innings-a-year workhorse who twice won 20 games, captured an ERA title, and represented the Astros...

Rangers' Beltre starts September with a bang again

There is already a Mr. October. But there might be room for a Mr. September. If there can be such a nickname, Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is laying claim to it. Beltre had two more extra-base hits, including his 29th home run, in the Rangers' 7-6 win over Kansas City on Wednesday. Over the last two Septembers, Beltre leads the majors in home runs (16), extra-base...

On-leave Rangers announcer to do UNT games

DENTON, Texas (AP) -- A Texas Rangers TV announcer off the air since his rambling comments during a June game will broadcast two college football matchups. The University of North Texas said Wednesday that Dave Barnett will do play-by-play television coverage Saturday against Texas Southern and Nov. 10 vs. South Alabama. Barnett is a 1979 graduate of North Texas, known then as...

Dave Barnett will return to announce a North Texas football game

In great news it appears that Dave Barnett will be returning to the booth in November to announce a North Texas football game. This is fantastic to hear after a scary rambling incident earlier this summer during a Texas Rangers game left many concerned for his career and more importantly his health. Barnett is a Mean Green alum and in the past has called college football...

Joe Nathan- One of the Best

Joe Nathan is one of the best closers in MLB history.  I know, that probably surprises you.  He's converted 90% of save opportunities over his 12 year career, only blowing 32 saves.  His career ERA is 2.85, WHIP is 1.10, and he has 50 W to go along with his 291 SV (currently ranked 25th all-time).  As a typical closer, he strikes out better than a batter per inning (826...

The Double-A Frisco RoughRiders finished off a three-game sweep of Corpus Christi on Friday, advancing to the Texas League Championship Series. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Beltre, Dempster lead Rangers over Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer, Michael Young also went deep and the Texas Rangers held on for a 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. Ryan Dempster (5-1) gave up RBI doubles to Billy Butler in the first inning and Salvador Perez in the sixth, but was otherwise stingy for the AL West-leading Rangers. He only allowed two other hits...

Kinsler's goofs contribute heavily to Rangers' defeat

It was not a good night for Ian Kinsler. The Texas Rangers second baseman made blunders on the basepaths and in the field about five minutes apart Tuesday to turn the game in Kansas City's favor. The Royals erased a two-run deficit and scored six consecutive runs in a 6-3 win over Texas. Kinsler was picked off third base in the top of the third inning with one out and Josh...

Rangers-Rays Preview

The Texas Rangers are starting to get comfortable atop the AL West. The Tampa Bay Rays are anything but content, but they could change that very soon. While the Rangers attempt to continue building their division lead, the Rays will try to stay close in the AL East race in the opener of this three-game series Friday night in St. Petersburg. Texas (82-55) owns the league's...
