Right fielder Nelson Cruz left the Texas Rangers' 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals with a bruised right hand.
Cruz was hit by a pitch from Luke Hochevar in the third inning Wednesday night. The 2011 ALCS MVP hit 29 homers last year but was sidelined for 29 games because of a strained left hamstring and strained right quadriceps muscle.
Lorenzo Cain and Billy Butler each hit a two-run homer for Kansas City. Eric Hosmer went 3 for 4, raising his average to .397, and drove in his Cactus League-leading 23rd run.
Cain connected against Derek Holland with two out in the first. Butler went deep in the third.
Hochevar gave up four runs and eight hits in five innings.
Minor leaguer Matt Kata doubled home the winning run in the 10th inning.

Although the 2012 Royals uniforms were revealed months ago, sports uniform obsessor, Paul Lukas of Uni Watch has released his complete 2012 MLB uniform preview.
Lukas blames the relatively unnoticed "solid-looking" uniforms on the fact the Royals have been "so bad for so long".
Royals Uniform Preview:
A very solid-looking club whose uniforms rarely get...
With the news that Joakim Soria will be out for the season with Tommy John Surgery, the Royals need to look for another option at closer. Automatically Jonathan Broxton comes to mind to a lot of people because of his prior closing experience*, but let’s take a look at some other options that the Royals will have in the bullpen and on the 40 man roster.
* I said at the time that...
The 34-year-old lefty has played pretty solidly for the Royals the past three years. In 20 starts last year, Bruce Chen won 12 of them and had a 3.77 ERA. In order for the Royals to have a successful season they are going to need dependable veteran players like Chen. Also you have to consider the fact that Chen only has a base salary of 2 million dollars. I believe that Dayton did...
I don't really remember what I was looking for on YouTube when I found it, but, man...I sure am glad I stumbled on this Josh Hamilton video. We already know that the Texas Rangers superstar is a stud on the field but off of it? BAM! Dude's a little bit of a douchebag. Then again, this is the same cat who apologized for his "relapse" wearing a backwards cap and...
I attended the Futures Game at Kauffman stadium last year, hoping to catch a glimpse of the prospects that earned a #1 ranking for the Kansas City Royals by Baseball America.

Let me tell you, from that one exhibition, I came away with a new twist on an old phrase:
“I have seen the future, and it is Mike Montgomery.”
On that April 4 afternoon, all...
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- Shortstop Elvis Andrus has left the Texas Rangers' game against the San Diego Padres with tightness in his right hip flexor muscle.
Andrus had a run-scoring groundout in the first on Tuesday and played in the field both of the first two innings, recording an assist and a putout.
Andrus is 9 for 32 this spring with two RBIs and a stolen base.
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- Derek Holland thought he pitched pretty well, even though his line didn't look so good.
Holland yielded two-run homers by Lorenzo Cain and Billy Butler, but the Texas Rangers rallied for a 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals in 10 innings on Wednesday night.
"Just a couple of pitches got away from me," Holland said. "I'm still...
Mike Sweeney's stint in Philadelphia was brief, but he quickly became a fan favorite and was the kind of player you could really pull for. With his positive attitude and his willingness to share hugs with everyone who did something well, Sweeney was certainly a guy that fit well in any clubhouse he suited up in.
Now Sweeney will be suiting up ina different way.
It’s been an interesting major league career for Alex Gordon. The player proclaimed as the next George Brett, a can’t miss prospect, almost became the next Clint Hurdle, the Royals late 70′s can’t miss prospect who did miss.
It started out so well. After a stellar collegiate career at the University of Nebraska, the Royals selected Gordon as the second overall pick of the...
Yu Darvish is off to a rough start in his much-anticipated major league debut for the Texas Rangers.
Darvish walked Seattle leadoff hitter Chone Figgins on four pitches. Before Figgins hit into a first inning-ending groundout, the Mariners already had four runs and four hits.
Two-time defending American League champion Texas in January committed more than $107 million, including...

It looks like the Kansas City Royals are close to deciding on their new closer. Since Joakim Soria went down with an elbow injury they’ve been debating between the experienced Jonathan Broxton and young, up and coming Greg Holland. Jon Heyman tweeted this afternoon that Broxton looks to be the front runner.
@JonHeymanCBS: The #royals are leaning toward jonathan broxton as their...
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- Two of the three hits Matt Cain allowed left the park Thursday night. In the end, it didn't matter.
Cain allowed two runs in seven innings and the San Francisco Giants rallied to beat Texas 6-2, snapping the Rangers' three-game winning streak.
"I threw some good sliders and threw some bad ones," said Cain, who has allowed four earned runs...
