The Texas Rangers have activated right-hander Alexi Ogando from the 15-day disabled list. Texas also recalled right-hander Ross Wolf and outfielders Engel Beltre and Joey Butler from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, giving them 36 players on the active roster. Ogando began his third DL stint of the season on Aug. 20 because of an inflamed nerve in his right shoulder. He threw a bullpen session on Monday and the Rangers added him to their expanded roster for September. Ogando is 5-4 with a 3.47 ERA in 15 starts this season.

Rangers hoping Elvis Andrus will return today

The Texas Rangers held shortstop Elvis Andrus out of the starting lineup for the second consecutive game yesterday as he continues to deal with stiffness in his lower back. While he's still dealing with the discomfort, Rangers manager Ron Washington told reporters -- including T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com -- that he's hoping to get Andrus back in the lineup today. Andrus...

Rangers routed by A's, fall into tie atop AL West

Yu Darvish has dominated most teams in his first two seasons in the majors except for the one the Texas Rangers are trying to beat out in the AL West. Darvish matched a season high in runs (5) and tied a career-high in walks (6) allowed, lasting only five-plus innings in the Rangers' 11-4 loss to the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday. Texas lost two of three in the series to fall...

Rangers beat A's 5-1 for sole possession of 1st

Martin Perez allowed one run in seven innings to win his sixth straight start and Mitch Moreland homered to move the Texas Rangers back into sole possession of first place in the AL West with a 4-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night. After falling into a tie for first with the A's when they lost the series opener, the Rangers bounced back behind another strong...

A's rout Rangers 10-4; A.L. West deadlocked again

The A's and Texas Rangers went their separate ways Wednesday afternoon in the wake of Oakland's 11-4 win at the Coliseum knowing that nothing has been decided. The promised land of the postseason in the American League West is completely up for grabs as it was on April 1. The caveat is that the other three teams in the division are non-qualifiers. Both the A's and Rangers...

Rangers beat A's 5-1, retake sole possession of AL West lead

Martin Perez allowed one in seven innings Tuesday night and Jurickson Profar had an RBI double in a three-run fifth inning as the Rangers beat the A’s 5-1 to reclaim first place in the American League West. Mitch Moreland jump-started the offense with a game-tying solo homer in the fourth inning off Bartolo Colon who booted a one-out grounder by Craig Gentry in the fifth to spark...

A’s Hold On to Beat Rangers, Force First Place Tie

It was a playoff atmosphere at the Coliseum Monday afternoon as the A’s knocked off the Rangers in front of 23,495 raucous fans in the first game of a three-game series that has huge postseason ramifications. On a sunny Labor Day game, perennial A’s killer Derek Holland was forced to labor through the Oakland lineup as he lasted just 4.2 innings. Three big hits lifted the A...

A’s Blast Rangers, Regain Division Lead Tie

After falling back a game behind the Rangers in the standings Tuesday night, the A’s whipped out their power bats Wednesday afternoon to put an exclamation point on regaining a tie for first place in the AL west. Four home runs and another solid starting pitching effort lifted Oakland to their 80th victory of the season with an emphatic 11-4 win over division rival Texas. Jerrod...

Rangers beat A's for sole possession of 1st

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Martin Perez allowed one run in seven innings to win his sixth straight start and Mitch Moreland homered to move the Texas Rangers back into sole possession of first place in the AL West with a 4-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night. After falling into a tie for first with the A's when they lost the series opener, the Rangers bounced...

This feels familiar … and not good

I only got to listen to/watch two of the games in this Oakland series. And both were games the Rangers lost.  Is that a message to me?  I’m trying not to take it personally, Rangers. I’m also trying not to feel deja vu. But the boys are making it really hard. This is feeling a lot like last September, when Texas slowly faded out of first place in a month that completely ripped...

A's rout Rangers to even up AL West

There's something about Jarrod Parker's presence on the mound that is bringing out the best in the Oakland Athletics. Especially against Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers. Parker got plenty of home-run help to pitch his way into Oakland's record book, and the surging A's pulled into a tie atop the American League West with Texas by overpowering the Rangers 11-4 on...

A's move into first-place tie in West with 4-2 win over Rangers

Coco Crisp's power barrage continued and on Monday he clanked his daily home off the foul pole in left a two-run shot that helped claim a share of first place in the AL West for the A's. Oakland's 4-2 victory over Texas gave the teams identical records at 79-58 with 25 games to play. "This is a big series" A's outfielder Brandon Moss said before the game...

Trade Target: Elvis Andrus

It seems a bit far-fetched to view Elvis Andrus as a trade target, but he fills a pressing need at shortstop and is a young under-control player for the future. Sandy Alderson went on WFAN and talked to Mike Francesa yesterday and mentioned that it was like “pulling teeth” to get Ruben Tejada to do the little things to get better. And it’s very clear that Omar Quintanilla is...
